Cyanide prevents the cells of the body from using oxygen. When this happens, the cells die.

pretty sure i been watching some documentaries which talk about cancer and the use of foods with cyanide.

it is interesting to read about the switch from typical cancer treatment towards food based healing.

You can get "Chivo" without all those small "Pieces Of Glass", it depends on the "Cut".
Not much "Fillet" but it's there."I once ate some "Chivo" at a "AI" in Juan Dolio.
Someone must have spent their whole day "Deboning" the Chivo!
Awesome", I "OD"ed!

"Dave",...THAT's what Steve Jobs said!

Wow. I thought you were joking with your original post.
How long have been living here without these delights?
SD for Normal?
Do you think the Expat Restaurants fly everything in?
When you move to SD. You should go to The Market on the upper end of Duarte. I loved that place and the whole experience. It's where you get the freshest produce, meat etc. Trucks arrive thru the night to supply the place.
You can drive your vehicle around the outside and negotiate with the various produce vendors.
This is where the people that own Colmados buy, as well as the people that sell to them.
It's gotten pretty rough there the last few years. I don't go anymore. They've opened a new one though.
Harleysrock, You should think 10 times about moving to SD. Other than being close to decent heath care. It's bad. and more expensive.

We have lived here a year and a half, I didn't eat ethnic food at home so here is no different. I have weird food habits for sure and I don't expect things to be flown in, it is just food I am used to and like.

I am not sure if we will move to SD, it does seem a lot more expensive for what we would want and I like the people we have met on the NC, who knows?!

i don't know why adults insist that other adults eat everything. i passed that stage in life when i was five, i think. i was told once i had to drink a glass of milk or else i would not be allowed to go home form summer classes. i tossed the damn glass onto the wall. i was kicked out minutes after that.

let harley eat (or not) whatever he wants.

two minor, nitpicky corrections

1..#23 is not champagne cola, but cola champagne

1..#43..pastelitos. the writer says they are similar to Jamaican patties, but more buttery and flaky. wrong. Jamaican patties are baked, not fried, and are far more flaky.

You're right, I apologize harley. If you DO try the majarete, and don't like it, please don't throw it at the wall. :D

[no ethnic food? you're more like my dad than I thought! at least you're in good company :bunny:]

I have found the DR dishes sometimes a bit heavy on bone and light on meat and many of the dishes posted don't have much flavor to me. I have had about 75% of the list.

This is what I was trying to say.

All the Dominican food that I tried and I tried at least 90% of them on the list and more and just like you said they are blend (minus the dessert). And there are Dominican foods that are one the list and not on the list that I can honestly say they are very decent but it's not the food I would say let's go for this or that in the middle of the night.

And there was definitely something wrong with your Korean g/f if she is throwing away all the good parts because if you check the prices of any part of BEEF in Korea you will understand why most sane person will not throw away almost any edible parts. Few years ago, Korean version kobe tenderloin at $30/150 grams at Gangnam bbq restaurant. It was either gold ring for my wife or few pieces of meat at a plate.

ha ha, nothing wrong with a recommendation. but to push someone? too much. we are all adults here. harley is lucky to have the means to buy and eat what he likes best. let be.

No worries! I am so used to people trying to get me to eat things it doesn't phase me at all. I think people just love certain foods so much they want others to share in the joy!

Deyvi has left us to cool off, obviously having a bad day ....

Chivo shouldn't have a lot of small bones!! I do know what you mean though, I've had chivo when there were a lot of small pea sized bones.

Deyvi is just jonesing cuz he is so close to 500.

I've never had bacalao guisado or chen chen.
Never even heard of chen chen.
The last time I tried a chimi was as a teenager.

It seems as though the only thing that DR1ers are more concerned about than OTHER Dr1er's sex practices, are their Culinary practices!
They want to decide what we should "EAT" in both areas!!!!!

This is some beautiful food porn.

I've eaten all but one or two of these dishes.

I would recommend a cook book and pbs show "Daisy Cooks". Also, a classic Tampa cubano restaurant The Columbia published a history and recipe book.

I have her cookbook, and it's great. The best flan I've ever made came from her recipe, she has a good story about where the recipe came from too.

Yuca encebollada - love it
Dulce de coco - no, I prefer coco horneado or even better Coconut rice pudding br?l?e recipe
Batata frita - yes
Casabe - yes
Kipes - we are working on a meat-free version. Well, Aunt Clara is working and I am lined up for tasting

Mofongo - yes (de camarones)
Moro de habichuelas - yes
Moro de guandules - yes
Conc?n - yes
Habichuelas con dulce - again, only a low-sugar version made with semi-skimmed milk

Lech?n asado - no
Flan - yes
Pastelon de pl?tano maduro - yes, in a meatless version
Locrio - not really, unless made with shrimp or veg
Majarete - yes
Malta - no
Pasteles en hoja (veg) - yes
