Quake felt in Punta Cana. And my better half woke up in extreme panic.
Surprisingly, yours truly was as calm as a cucumber, even though if it was the strongest tremor I've ever felt.
I kinda trusted the building's construction.

About 10:45 this evening an offshore quake rattled the house. No damages noted.

“Hey, Lucifer, it’s ‘cool as a cucumber,’ not calm.”
“You’re neither the brightest knife nor the sharpest bulb, Luci.”

Yes, quite a jolt. Indeed!
It turned seconds into minutes. Thought it was never gonna stop.

Felt it last night here in Santiago.
Wasn't too strong but it lasted longer than they usually do.

Do they have a tsunami warning system in DR, via SMS or siren etc....?

Other than thousands of people running out in the streets screaming?

The last time we felt one here where I live, all of my neighbors were standing around outside in the parking area.

I finally walked out and gave them the "all clear", and they all went back inside.

The thing about tsunamis is that you may never feel anything where you are regarding what causes the tsunami. And then the water just comes and takes you away.

That happened to people I had tea with in Sri Lanka some years ago. And so it goes.

I remember when the Haitian quake shook DR, we were at our house at Playa Najayo. There was an immediate tsunami alert in the media, we received calls from half the family in SD telling us to get out of there fast (my elderly mother-in-law was with us). We locked the door and headed to SD, problem is much of the roadway is not far from the sea, so we drove with one eye forward and one to the right.

I don't think it's true to say there is no tsunami warning system. When there is a hurricane alert, all local phones get a text message from the CoE about it, I remember having received these. And didn't they test some sort of alarm a couple of years ago which made everyone's phone ping? I'm sure I remember something like that happening. Certainly text messages for sure I have definitely received these.

In any case, I think Dominicans are generally pretty well informed about things like this. Whenever something happens, everyone I know seems to know about it, news seems to spread fast via the social networks and everyone seems glued to their phones most of the time.

Tsunamis on the open seas can travel up to 500 mph. When they are closer inshore the speed can be 25 -50 mph. By the time anyone receives a warning of any ocean tsunami near the DR, the tsunami would have already done shore damage. Its warning time most probably would have been outraced by the wave. At best, warnings of tsunamis and damage would be a matter of few minutes.
