As far as I have understood, midnight Thursday would be 11:59 pm turning to 12 am on Thursday, not Wednesday, so today.

To avoid exactly that confusion, where I work, terms such as "midnight" or "12am" are never used, but rather either 11:59 pm, 11pm or 1am and the respective, correct date. Just checked a few resources, and appears that "technically", Thursday midnight would be 12am Wednesday turning into Thursday, but it's commonly used that Thursday midnight is actually Thursday turning into Friday... That is just an unnecessary confusion...

Wrong. Technically Thursday midnight would be Friday morning as everyone sleeps during the night. As they sleep during 1am and so forth, it’s still considered night and technically is as the sun has yet to rise since the day prior.

This is quite elementary.
