The Seguro Nacional de Salud (Senasa) has affiliated 1.7 million more people to the plan since August 2020. President Luis Abinader had announced at the start of his government that two million people would be affiliated as the government sought universal health coverage. The director of Senasa, Santiago Hazim says that 3-4% of those who would otherwise qualify for the plans, have not been enrolled because they do not have ID cards (cedula).
Hazim says that Senasa has affiliated 50% of those that have medical plans in the country. He said it has 6,042,000 affiliates, of which 4,760,146 are on a subsidized plan.
