Adoption/childtrafficking

Adoption is a great thing if those adopting are well meaning. But then there are the heartless crooks who trade in kids and the stringent adoption laws are there or supposed to be there to stop this from happening. The DR government is aware of this and so are most developed country governments including the US embassy in Santo Domingo.

Even some so called "reputable" international adoption agencies are questionable.

We are working in the DR and are looking into adopting a baby from one of the HIV/AIDS orphanages. These children have been truly abandoned either because their parents are dead or too sick to care for them.

From what the orphanage explained and what our lawyer did too, it should not be so complicated. Like in the US, or Canada, we will have to prove we are fit parents. A social worker will come to visit and then the process sounds pretty straight forward from there.

It is not easy or cheap to adopt children anywhere, why should it be easy here?

For those who are interested, I will keep you posted.
