I agree with everyone else. Just add that I am not sure a crime was committed. She gave back what you say she stole (she would say she borrowed these items if asked) and no money was taken.

If you are going to live here you need to learn that we are always seen as the visitors even after 15 years. And when we pick a fight with the locals they tend to gang up and usually we come out worse. There are a lot of good Dominicans out there and the longer you are here the more you will develop a network of friends who will look after you.

Yes, Ok, fair enough he lost that money. But I imagine we're talking maybe a couple of thousand pesos here? Not worth getting into legal stuff about, and in any case I still question what crime was committed. She would say that he gave her the computer and iPad. She pawned it. He then said he wanted it back and she had to pay the fees. He got his stuff back, all he lost was a little cash, game over. No Judge is going to be interested in this one.

I think he meant that in the US there would be no case to answer legally. I agree there probably wouldn't. If you took this story to the police they would yawn.
