AG Miriam Germán will not be rushed in prosecuting corruption

Attorney General Miriam Germán said on Tuesday, 20 October 2020 that it takes time to prepare duly documented prosecution cases. She said sending someone to prison is not a decision that should be taken lightly.

“To order imprisonment there has to be serious grounds,” she said after signing an agreement to prosecute corruption at the Ministry of Foreign Relations.

When interviewed at the Ministry of Foreign Relations regarding investigations into sworn wealth statements by current and past government officials, the head of the Attorney General Office (PGR) said that sufficient evidence is essential when it comes to prosecuting someone. The PGR has summoned current and former officials for questioning regarding their worth statements. The agency is under pressure to accelerate the investigating of high-level corruption cases.
