The Dominican Republic is about to get a taste of the future of transportation with the arrival of a new air taxi service, Diario Libre reports. The service will utilize the EH216-S model aircraft, brought to the country by the National Association of Unified Transporters (CNTU), which will oversee the project.

Air taxis offer private aviation services, allowing passengers to travel quickly and flexibly between destinations without being tied to traditional commercial routes.

The EH216-S is a state-of-the-art electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, making it ideal for urban environments and short-to-medium-distance travel. The aircraft can take off and land vertically, eliminating the need for runways. This makes it ideal for use in congested cities, such as Santo Domingo.

The CNTU is currently working to develop the necessary infrastructure and regulations...

From my understanding, this is a Chinese helicopter. My, my… if I have to think twice before getting in a Chinese made car, imagine doing that with anything Chinese that fly!

Aside from the safety issue with many (some would say copy cats) Chinese products, if this leads to a major contract it might attract the attention from the current US President. This could be avoided if some sort of deal is made with say Sikorsky to produce flying taxi helicopters and start that line with the DR as its first sales deal.

The safety issue is eliminated since it’s one of the major suppliers of helicopters to the US Military and the US Coast Guard, plus the US Presidency (that dark green helicopter that the US President uses, guess who makes it?) Actually, the helicopter that was involved in the recent collision in Washington DC was itself a Sikorsky. That event had nothing to do with any lack of safety or malfunctioning of some-kind of the chopper.

Then comes that since it will be American made, the US President is going to be ok with that too (nowadays that could be important.)

Speaking of Sikorsky, the first helicopters of the Dominican Air Force were Sikorsky. One is on display at the Dominican Air Museum (I guess the one at the San Isidro Air Base.)

What could go wrong with a CHINESE battery powered helicopter piloted by Dominican pilots?

I don't see the US government worried about the DR buying Chinese junk helicopters where people will likely die using them on a regular basis.. I see the USA having problems if the Chinese themselves get more control over ports in the DR or try to establish a physical presence of personnel in the DR. You know, like the pushback happening in Panama right now.

Hopefully the cost of entry will diminish the number of them flying about, but people insist upon developing such craft:
