Airport testing is back, says Presidency Minister

Airport testing had to be suspended on Monday for the chaos created in the Cibao International Airport in Santiago. On Tuesday, 28 July 2020, Presidency Minister Gustavo Montalvo is telling the nation that international arrivals will need to bring their PCR test certificates when flying into the Dominican Republic.



Speaking to the nation from the Presidential Palace, Montalvo said: “Starting next Thursday July 30th, all persons who wish to enter the country must bring a PCR test that is no more than five days old.” Montalvo spoke in his capacity as coordinator of the High Level Commission for the Prevention and Control of the Coronavirus.



He then said that if the traveler comes without the test, “we will be conducting tests, as appropriate, at the airport itself.”

They might as well just close the airports if they want PCR tests.

Nobody in the US can get a PCR test done within 5 days of flying.

So a plane arrives at the airport and everyone on it from the US needs to be tested. Six to eight hours later the Rapid Test machines
they have are done testing the last passenger from that one plane. They just had that scenario.

These people are not very bright. Their only "out" on this is the words they use about "testing as appropriate" which means don't bother to test them.

That might work since it is a type of PCR test called a RT-PCR test. The RT perhaps meaning Rapid Test.

It will be interesting seeing how many people they just pass through the airport from the USA or others who simply have no option to get PCR
test results within 5 days.

This requirement will shut down tourists from the United States, There is no way to get the test result in 3 or 4 days to have it in hand by the travel day. No one in the right mind will take the risk of getting a test at the Dominican airport. A false positive will put you at quarantine center which will be a death sentence. Also this will open up the door for more corruption and bribery at the airport. Even if you have a test result, the airport sharks will raise an issue with it to extract some money.

I flew into Santiago yesterday from the US. It was not possible to obtain the test before I left and I wasn't sure what to expect upon arrival. I was very impressed with the set up. When deplaning people were asked for their test results, if you did not have them you were directed to a line to wait for testing. There were 12 testing stations set up and things moved very quickly. After obtaining your information and a copy of your passport, it was a finger prick for blood and it took 5 minutes for the test results. I do not know what happens if you test positive, but once you have your negative results you moved right along thru immigration as normal.
