Airports and airlines prepare to start international travel on 1 July 2020

Airlines flying to the Dominican Republic have begun to reschedule commercial flights planned to start as of 1 July 2020. The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation has notified the aviation community that airports continue to be closed through 1 July 2020. This gives airlines a month to program flights for July. Several companies had already scheduled flights for June.

Passengers that had booked flights on airlines to the Dominican in June will have to reschedule. IDAC says only repatriation flights are being allowed, which is the one-way flights that can are open only to foreign citizens for return to their country of origin.

The airport notice is valid for Punta Cana International Airport, Santo Domingo’s Las Americas International and La Isabela International, Samaná’s El Catey International, Puerto Plata’s Gregorio Luperón International, La Romana’s Casa de Campo International.

Iberia has posted news to the travel industry that they will operate twice-weekly from 4th July Madrid - Santo Domingo. The outbound flights will be Saturday and Monday, departing Madrid at the normal 11.50am and arriving Santo Domingo 2.30pm. It seems that the crew will overnight in Santo Domingo and return the next day with the same aircraft, so the return flights leave Sunday and Tuesday, both at 4.10pm. Obviously all subject to change and cancellation but this is the revised schedule at the moment.
