An megaproject that the city of Montecristi seeks to develop, creating a city of well-being for foreign acquirers, in the style of Cap Cana and Casa de Campo.

If the government made sure the environmental impacts are limited or mitigated by the developers, I’d feel more comfortable about this large scale proposal. I’ve spent time walking the Monti Christi beaches and they are some of the most pristine beautiful beaches in the DR. I’d hate to see them altered in any negative way. I’d rather see small scale tourism development in that area.

The DR doesn’t need more new Punta Canas or Playa Doradas at this point. Both those areas are expanding rapidly to meet future needs. Economists are now saying there is a 60% certainty we will be in the throes of a world economic recession very soon. If that happens, spending on vacation trips will decline and the DR has more than enough AI resort room capacity to meet current tourism needs.

I'd like to see how the Govt. improves Luperon Bay before another project starts.

I think it is in that area I saw an abandoned resort. It looked like it had closed overnight and everybody suddenly left. Very sad.

Um, it will have a golf course.

They should build it and start with the golf course. lol

Though judging by what is shown there it seems it might be quite green. The DR doesn’t have a golf course in a semi-arid/arid setting as are seen in Arizona. There cactus and desert shrubs are the most noticeable.

These projects seem to be planned across the country. I'm beginning think their eyes may indeed be bigger than their stomach.
