The president of the Chamber of Deputies Alfredo Pacheco (PRM-National District) announced when speaking on the floor in Congress on 12 November 2024 that he had had surgery for prostate cancer. He said he was operated two weeks ago by Dr. David Babak Samadi at the Santiago Metropolitan Hospital (Homs). He said he shared the information to avoid being a victim of the rumors. He said he is recovering satisfactorily.

Well, he certainly had a top doctor.
Did you have interaction with Dr Samadi? Sounds like an old Iranian or even possibly Syrian or Iraqi name. Sometimes spelled with an "h".
I had a Jordanian friend with that name but they family immigrated from Iraq.

He is an urologist with offices in Manhattan and Long Island. He has done surgeries in the past in the DR. He performs robotic prostate cancer surgery. I saw him 5 years ago for a consult with BPH. I did not like his aggressive sales approach. Went to another great urologist who performed Aquablation. Results were incredible

My father-in-law was operated with him in Homs. They did a good job. We have no complaints. It is a robotic surgery so it is a quick recovery. He gives you his what's app so you can always message him and the internal medicine doctor.

Now I'm curious, I know that here in the DR are only to clinics who has the da vinci robot for doinig those robotic surgerys, it's HOMS and clinica Abreu. So I expect that not every insurance cover those operacion. Had your FiL payed this out of pocket or did any insurance cover it, and what was the cost of the surgery?

Done by my urologist Dr. Gary Goldberg in Manhasset N.Y. Aquablation is a robotic procedure that is mapped out by the urologist. The procedure uses high pressure water jet almost like a powerwasher and is programmed so it does not effect the male having any sexual side effects. Had it done in August and about a 4 week full recovery. Urine stream like a firehose and absolutely no erection issues or retrograde ejaculation. Works better on larger prostates. Mine was 140 grams. Unlike TURP (rotor rooter) less bleeding and less invasive. There are a couple of urologists in Canada and east coast of U.S. that perform the procedure.

The cost is definitely on the higher end. Mid 20k USD. The one in clinica Abreu is fairly new so he went with HOMs because they have more experience. More competition should eventually bring the cost down in the future.

They have been trying for a few years to include it in the SNS insurance catalog but it is still a work in progress. Insurances usually want you to go through much cheaper options like Radiation or Laparoscopic surgery. I know someone that has Senasa Subsidiado and they did not pay a single penny for Radiation therapy.
