The minority party Country Alliance (Alianza Pais) says it is backing engineer Eduardo Estrella, who is running for senator for Santiago, in the 5 July 2020 presidential and congressional election. Estrella is running on the Dominicans for Change (Dominicanos por el Cambio) ticket that has the backing of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
Estrella was secretary of state of Public Works from 1991-1994 under the last Balaguer administration. He has continued in politics running on his clean slate as minister. In 1994 he was elected senator for the province of Santiago (1994-1998) for the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC). In 2007 he resigned from the PRSC to form Dominicanos por el Cambio (DxC).
