I've only ever done wire transfers and that many years ago. Back then it was advisable to transfer in US$ but not let the bank here change to RD$ because you could better rates elsewhere. Then it went via NY for onward transmission to here.

man, looks like i really may have to transfer the money from UK bank... how do i get about it?
i call them to change money into dollars and then transfer?
i just make an e-transfer?
ultimately i need pesos so is it not better to just transfer into peso account?
when i make electronic transfer - which bank changes the money: UK or DR?

We always use Currencies Direct then you can agree a rate with to buy dollars before you make the transfer, you need to get an account with them but that is easy to set up. When we want to transfer we make a free BACS transfer from Yorkshire Bank to Currencies Direct which is then wired to us into our dollar account via USA and is free of charge from the UK end. We pay some commission in Banco Santa Cruz, not sure what that is but can let you know if a few days as we have just transferred some money. Hope that helps.
