Is it not normal to wonder why? We are all sorry for the surviving family and offer condolences. But not a one of is wants the same fate and it is not disrespectful to see how we might avoid a similar end. Who knows we maybe learn something. Moderators need little moderation just like the rest of us.

RIP.... A life taken prematurely is always a tragedy.
If the moderators feel the commentary here is in poor taste, they do not want to see the commentary on this same story posted on Yahoo.

I live in Zona Colonial but I am sure that neighbouring Gazcue is more dangerous in most parts . It has a lot of apartments ,poorly lit streets and the once gracious suburb is now a target for delinquents and robbers and vandels . Very sorry for this man who apparently came here looking for a life full of sweet love and met with someone who was determined to get much money from him .. Life in that lane is a little bit like driving here ,,,you have to be super defensive, have mucha prudencia and have your eyes wide open . As I grow older I am staying at home much more now, even though I think ZC is much safer than before . I also do not look for casual affairs

staying home

If I'm not mistaken, the unfortunate event took place while the victim was at home. I don't think I knew him so I would not speculate about the nature of any of his relationships.

Is there someone who actually keeps track of how tourists or expats actually die in the DR? Having a Dominican spouse increases or decreases the chance? Having casual affairs increases or decreases? working in the DR or being a pensioner etc?

Start another thread to discuss that, this one is not the place.

WHAT is all there, Don?

That he took in his mother who has Alheimer's to care for her?

Let it go Annie, it was an alternative lifestyle inference. The Guy trusted someone who turned out to be far from trustworthy. The irony here is in the Post article's statement that he was a lawyer who took on court-appointed cases, in other words his life's work was spent defending criminals. 10 trips a year, bought his dream only to be ended by it. This story is beyond sad.

There is a certain amount of irony given the social cause he championed in the D.C. area. A Dominican commentator in El Nacional invoked the Claudio Nasco case, which made me think of the Miky Bret?n incident.

One must read between the lines...
{and search the web....it's all there...}

I would like to caution everyone to stay focused on Mr. Teasley's death and condolences in this thread.

His so-called "alternative lifestyle" may or may not have played a part in his demise, and we're not here to discuss that aspect of the story. There are enough stories to go around about the women and men that many foreigners invite into their homes for various reasons, and that is always risky no matter the circumstances.

His family and friends are reading your posts, DR1 was even specifically mentioned on his Facebook page by one of them.

So please, condolences and updates to the investigation only in this thread. Thank you.

Not having any money to hire an attorney, or taking on court appointed cases does not make anyone a criminal. Defense attorneys are just that, DEFENCE ATTONEYS whether their client is rich or poor! In our great country a person is a criminal after they are found to be a criminal ?IN A COURT OF LAW?, not by your ability to pay an attorney.

Wealthy Defendants

I like your faith in the system. :classic:
However, I have heard that wealthy defendants had amazing success with expensive laywers.
Just saying...

BTW, I do know (for sure!) one country where $$$$$ tips the scales of justice...

Washington Post

I see it as responsible journalism, sticking to the facts that can be verified. The Dominican publication called "Sucesos," for exampe, is everything the Washington Post and other responsible publications are not.

That article is a masterpiece of subtle understatement.
