This is an online forum for discussion, people throw speculation around just like anyone else would do on the street, down the pub or behind closed doors.
If people are not able to share opinion and speculate then what is the point. Open an Acknowledgement forum if you want this silence. I've never heard the call for silence when Dominicans are killed, speculation goes mad with no concern, good, that's what a forum is about, and shouldn't be any different for anyone else. No one is being directly abusive that I have seen.
We see several murders a week, are you saying all we should contribute to these threads is 'my condolences, RIP'?

When someone is murdered and a thread is devoted to that person, there has to be a certain sense of respect and expression of condolences to that person's friends and family. In this particular case, several members of DR1 knew this man personally.

This is NOT the same as sitting at the pub or colmado speculating - the person's family and friends aren't sitting there at the table with you. Here they have to read the comments.

How would you feel about a thread about someone you care about who has been killed, and total strangers sitting around expressing opinions about how his or her behavior caused the attack - total speculation unless they knew the individual personally??? Some posters have crossed the line.

If you want to start a thread about avoiding attacks, be my guest, in fact I encourage you to do so.

As far as seeing rude, abusive, inappropriate posts in this thread - they've been deleted. Don't assume that everyone has been behaving in a respectful manner.

Do people actually make it the whole 40 years in those jails?

Who cares, these people should be lined up on Pasteur against that wall opposite Hermanos Villar and put an end to for all to see. The touts, the ladrone taxis on that block, the limpa botas, and all the prostitutes male and female. Van Teasley didnt make it one day

Inmates' Fate

Do people actually make it the whole 40 years in those jails?

1. I think the maximum jail sentence is still 30 years, and was recently increased to 40 years for terrorism only.

2. I have never heard of anyone being kept in prison for the whole term. Either they are killed by inmates acting on the victim's family 'suggestions' or they are let out through the back door because of payments to the right person(s)...

Are you suggesting that someone could pay-off the right person and this assailant would be set free even if convicted and sent to prison?

And so if we open another thread to speculate then the family and friends can not see this thread? Like I said before, if there is no definitive forum where we know if we should actually discuss the topic or acknowledge and send condolences it then this will continue to happen. And personally if this happened to someone I knew, somewhere I didn't know I would want as much on the ground experience and information to get a real picture of what might have happened as possible.
The answer is simple, either define threads as sensitive or open a separate forum to place these acknowledgements, I suspect we'll just go on as we do.

Yes

Yes.

After a certain time the public interest even in murder cases fades away. Then knowing the right people (laywers will help) and the right amount of money will set any perpetrator free..... unless the victim's family pays more to avoid that.

I am talking about the Dominican Republic, of course.

i know a guy who blew away another guy who was sitting at his dining table with his family, having a meal. the shooter did 3 months, after the monies were judiciously distributed. this is not some myth. i know the guy personally.

You seem to romanticize this, even go as far as to say you condone it.

the facts as we imagine them

You could be 100% spot on about each of the scenarios you mentioned, but you could just as easily be 100% wrong. You are speculating and that is your right. Everyone reading this should make distinctions between what has been verified and what we think may one day be verified.

Possibly correct, but this person knew Van was arriving that day, usually you have the most cash on your first day. Also since he had a place maybe he was going to buy a car or make a large purchase, in that case he could have had much more cash on him than usual. Look at the facts. The truth is on that street, all those mother****ers sitting on the wall and waiting for tourists are trouble. Even the shoe-shine boys, could do without, some of them are in their 20's for gods sake. This is a case where the tout finally did what he intended to do for a long time. Either murder or accessory to murder.

Stop twisting my words and being deliberately obtuse. I said open a thread to talk about ways to avoid attacks....NOT another thread about this particular attack.

Since you and others are incapable of understanding simple rules, I am closing this thread for the time being.

If there are any news updates to be posted, please PM me the links and I will take care of them.

Update courtesy dv8:

diario libre has a new article:

http://www.diariolibre.com/noticias/...ogado-gay.html

there is not much there apart from openly informing that he was a gay activist in the USA but some info is offered on the development on this case. while 5 people have been questioned no arrest has been made.

there is also a note that the apartment had no sign of forced entry and in that particular building the visitors must be registered so it is assumed the killer could have entered with the victim.

you can either post the link only, if you see fit, or the whole paragraph above for the benefit for those who do not speak spanish.

Thanks for finally doing the right thing. Apparently there is still no news of an arrest in this case. Was wondering if there is any news at all from those that live down there. Or has it been swept under the rug?

My condolences to the family and to the community that this fellow served so well. I can only hope that we, as fellow humans, can accept that bad things happen to good people. In my years as a police officer I had to deal with such tragic, wanton murders far to many times. There is no reason to take anothers life unless it is in defence of your own life. Each one of us can honour the memory of this loss by taking steps to educate each other on tips and tactics to protect ourselves and those we care about. I pray that we all become better at preserving our safety in future.

As i have lived in ZC for many years and know by sight many of the money boys on Conde and have also had my house robbed by two guys who some months earlier followed me home to find my address and later tried to rob the house ,I have been making a few quiet enquiries about this horrible murder because I do not think his family are here to motivate the police. The street boys have a very good idea who did the job and this man has committed many crimes in ZC and has been in prison numerous times for short periods . he has now gone missing ,probably back to San Juan, but the police know him . I hope there is an arrest soon
