American Football in the Dominican Republic
Regular season starts in early August. I'll have MUCH more later. Good football stuff is in the works, DZ!
We may have our OWN football season right here...
There was a pre-season game scheduled for the 1st weekend in July in Santiago, but it seems that it has been put on hold, with the hold coming from the Santiago side. This comes after the Santiago Eagles were defeated 28-8 by the Santo Domingo Giants who are considered by many to be the weakest of the teams from the Capital. The Santiago team seems to have some internal problems which as of yet have not been openly explained to the league authorities.
The league will be discussing the possibility of going to Santiago with 2 or 4 teams to play some exibition games but nothing is in concrete form as of yet. Also, I believe that some of the Santiago players will be contacted to see if they are actually interested in continuing to be part of the league and participate in games. The problem may be in the leadership area, but this is just a guess.
I will try to keep you guys updated.

My previous post stands. The coach of the Santiago Eagles has requested that his teams participation in the planned pre-season and tournament be cancelled. The cancellation has been accepted by the League, so, for now, the pre-season and tournament will be held with the participation of the 4 teams that are in Santo Domingo. If there is anyone in the Santiago area that is interested in coaching or helping the Eagles, please contact the league at 809-564-6282. Anyone in Puerto Plata or other areas interested in the possibility of forming a team can also call.
