South Coast
I see you’re on north coast, so I can’t help much but on south coast I see these all the time outside stores. Usually not white, I see green, orange, etc.

I don't see them around as much as I used to, but Inoa y Reyes just before Sabaneta had them a couple months ago when I was there. Give them a call.

You can also buy an adaptor to use the orange tanks. They come in all different sizes - one is even smaller than the white US tanks.

The newer production white ones are threaded both inside and out. The inside thread fits the old style regulators while the OS thread fits pretty much everything else. All the orange ones I had where only inside thread.

Has anyone seen one for sale in their travels Or know where to buy one?
I look at the LPG bottles in back of my apartment building, they look similar to the ones in the US, the only thing is there is more of a size variety here, as most LPG bottles in the US are 5 gallon

The white north American bottle will hold 5.5 gallons. The common size orange DR bottle will hold 7.5 gallons.
That's is if you fill it completely full. In Canada they can only fill them to 90% to allow room for expansion caused by outside weather temperatures.
They get to 90% by weighing the bottle as it fills and using standardized bottles.
When mine were empty I would ask for 5 gallons on the white and 7 on the orange to avoid blowing myself up.

Well, here's a question. I've been looking at those gadgets on Amazon that tell you when your propane is running low. They claim to be universal. Only about US$10, but I'd hate to buy one & find out it's not compatible.

I took my hose to a particular hardware store in Puerto Plata, and they changed the fitting. Took them 30 seconds. Now my hose works on Dominican tanks. Reach out to me if you want directions to the Ferreteria I used.
Thank you changing the regulator wasn’t issue.. I wanted tank to fit under bbq .. Jumbo sells the american tank and bought one.

Not a very good idea to put the tank under the grill......Dangerous in fact.....

It is not safe to store a propane tank under a grill. In fact, it's one of the most common mistakes people make. You want the tank to be in a cool, dry place away from heat sources. Anything above 120 degrees Fahrenheit (50 degrees Celsius) can overheat the tank and potentially cause an explosion.Dec 10, 2022
