I love the part where you write about the guy saying he was from "el ayuntamiento", maldito fresco. Then you say he just had a picture of Danilo, hahaha!!! Wooooooh, that was funny. Thank you sir, you made me laugh.

you have to admire the guts of that dude. he saw the opportunity and seized it. that he lost is another story. how many times did he succeed? well, well...

it's like when i walk the street and nearly all school kids who see me approach me with "dame cinco pesos". automatic reaction to ask for money upon seeing a gringa. instinct, even. you give them money - they are happy. you don't - it will not stop them from asking time and again.

I have to say that this guy is going something that I have only dreamed of doing. Deep pockets required....

I would love to do this to some of the old houses in Santiago. None are THAT old....

I do wish more people with the "wherewithall" to do jobs like this would go into the colonial zone and do this kind of thing.

It will be interesting to see just how much this project ends up costing Chris...

i loved colonial zone. shame that is is going to waste. i would kick out all those pobres who live there now and restore the houses to previous glory. to maintain those buildings in great conditions one needs lots of money. and that means turning all this area into rich neighbourhood...

The government makes it nearly impossible to restore anything in "La Zona Colonial", as Chris has made us all to clear.
He has demonstrated, time & again" that he will complete this job!!!
It will not be easy, or cheap, but at least he has a VERY Beautiful wife to go home to!!
I can't wait for the "Grand Opening".
Cris,............That's how I spell it!

A new adventure in the Dominican Republic

Thanks for all the comments - it is tough, no hiding it - working in there 6 days a week. It has become a mission for me now - so many obstacles but getting there - finally got the title the other day which was a big plus - only took 9 months.

Bronzeallspice - I cannot wait to see what it looks like either - I am a few weeks away from starting the panete for the walls - will be a big transformation...

HB - No deep pockets here... people have said it is impossible on the budget I have - my aim is to prove them wrong...

Criss - Will be having a big party in September (if its livable by then) Will send out an invite!

Invite...Please do. Just by taking on the project you have proved them wrong. Everything else is icing on the cake. Thanks for the updates.

Really? My mate Jay gave him to me as he didn't have the room anymore - love the boy, he is on a diet though, has piled on the pounds! Small country!

He did get fat with the lack of room for him to run...at least he still loves rocks. Im sure Ill run into you one day when im down there, good luck with the project. It will be amazing.

The one thing I hate the most about our house is the wooden floor! Who puts a wooden floor in 30 feet from the ocean?! I CAN'T WAIT to replace it! Everyday I want to email the former owner and yell at them!

Wooden floors are wonderful from where I came from and very popular but here. OMG!!!

I was a little concerned about the wood used in the roof.
I hope it is termite resistant??????
I put a "Tin roof" over my outside laundry area, used untreated wood for the support, the termites loved it!
They send me a gift box every Christmas!
A "wood floor" made from "Caoba" is a beautiful thing!
I would have that too, if not for the costs involved.
I can't wait for the "FIESTA"!!!!

I am loving the updates, Chris, your adventure seems like a total blast, although it seems like a lot of work as well. I have some experience rehabbing an older building, although probably not as old as your project. I find that I am never quite satisfied. Every time I tick something off my to-do list, another item seems to take its place. I am also curious about the costs for this kind of undertaking. I know that is a very personal subject but that is a key part of it.

Where are you getting the workers for this kind of project, for instance? How much do they cost per day? Are they skilled laborers, or are you the mastermind/engineer/contractor?

In any case, just some questions I have. Keep up the good work, the place is looking awesome!
