Diario Libre reports that the defense is scheduled to present concluding statements on 24 March 2025 regarding the legal battle involving Alex and Magalys Medina Sanchez, siblings of former Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina, who are facing major corruption charges. The case, known as the “Antipulpo” case, has been ongoing for over four years, prompting the defendants’ lawyers to request its dismissal.
The prosecution counters that corruption cases should not be subject to statutory limitations.
Alex Medina, the main defendant, is accused of fraudulent contracting with a government power utility. His sister, Magalys Medina, is also accused in the case.
The defense argues that the prolonged duration of the case (over four years) exceeds the reasonable timeframe outlined in the Criminal Procedure Code (CPP), and thus, the charges should be dropped.
