San Antonio
I'm American, but am married to a Dominicana. I haven't seen too many Dominicans in Texas. I have found a few places that play Merengue here though. McAllen isn't that far;-)
Arjon's- International Night Club. Live Orchestras, with mostly Salsa but some Merengue
Carlos O'Hara's- Mexican restaurant/bar. Live "orchestras" on weekends. really one singer, bass player, two percussionists plus MIDI tracks off a laptop. Still a fun place. Kind of laid back. When the band isn't playing they pipe in Salsa and Merengue etc.
The "orchestra" plays mostly Salsa with some Tejano and a bit of Merengue. They always do a Merengue set, when they see, myself and my wife there. She makes it a point to tell them that Merengue es de "mi tierra" !
There is anothe rplace called Rosario's that I haven't been to in a while, plus Sunste Station's Latin Club, both of which have live Salsa bands that mix in some Merengue.
We have a Dominican friend in Dallas, and have been to a Latin Club there that plays some Merengue etc.
Where are you from, how old etc? How long have you been in texas?
Maybe I'll post a link of a photo of myself with Millie! La Reina de Merengue! Saw her a few times in SD. Most recently at Jet Set.
