We usually fly United out of Newark to SDQ, over two hours away. Philadelphia is about an hour so we’re considering Frontier, but we’ve never flown them. Anyone fly that route?

I kind of agree with Sky. My son has used Frontier a few times back and forth to the DR and the experience has never been good. At least twice the flights were delayed by over 4 hrs. and had one cancelled at the last minute. He flies Frontier because of the low price and like you AE because he can get in and out of Philadelphia, he is between Newark and Philadelphia, though closer to Philadelphia. Actually, I am pretty sure the flight he is taking again in a couple of weeks is on Frontier. It was the cheapest fare he could find for Christmas. He is younger so he can tolerate the chaos better than I could.

Can you wait another year?

Frontier Airlines is the latest no-frills carrier getting into the premium seating game — with what it’s referring to as “first class-style” seats.
The “luxurious, spacious seats” will be available in late 2025, Frontier announced on Tuesday. Aircraft will be reconfigured to replace the existing first two rows with the new seats, the airline told CNN. Pricing details are not yet available.

Wow, two whole rows!!

A brother flew Frontier a few weeks ago, but not the Philly - SD route, rather NY - San Juan, PR. All I will say is that their trip to PR was reduced by one day due to the delay (the weather was fine, so that wasn’t it) and the airline didn’t pay for their hotel stay in NYC. New flight was the following day. All their luggage was carry on, so who knows how it would had been with checked bags. He will not be using Frontier again, that’s a given, and that was his first time.

I think Frontier is good for those not checking baggage, are very flexible (delays, cancellations, etc) and just looking for a low-cost way from point A to point B. Pretty sure that is the reason my son flies with Frontier.

This is what you are dealing with when you fly Frontier.

Frontier Airlines confirms gate agent ‘incentive’ for increased baggage fees after viral TikToks

Customers flying on Frontier Airlines have brought their complaints about one such fee to TikTok, and the videos are going viral. One user shows how she and another customer’s personal bags both fit easily into the personal baggage checker, which has the Frontier Airlines logo on it. However, she and the other passenger were required to pay a $100 personal item fee when the gate agents said the bags were too big.

Frontier and Spirit compete for the similar market. Enough said.

you ever see those people walking through the terminal that look like they slept under a bridge and have not showered in 19 days. They are at the frontier gate.

My son wants to spend a few days for Christmas in the DR. His ticket on Frontier was around $550.00 (not sure when he bought it). AA, United, Jet Blue tickets were in the 1k range. I realize it is Christmas, so flights are expensive but for him Frontier was affordable. He has no luggage to check (I think), so he is hoping all goes well. Like I said he is younger, so he is ok with Frontier for 3+ hrs. down to the DR. Don't worry Big my son showers and most definitely does not sleep under a bridge. Since he is paying for the ticket (we normally pay but this was a trip he planned) he needed something a bit more affordable for the holidays.

We flew in today on Frontier and we were very pleasantly surprised. Left early, arrived on time, absolutely no complaints. Two wheelchairs. Luggage came out fast. I’d definitely do it again.

Good timing looks like a winter storm is headed toward the East Coast. My son is supposed to fly back this weekend to Philadelphia (on Frontier), so fingers crossed all goes well.

Philadelphia used to have direct weekend flights on American but it’s been years since that stopped. Frontier has no competition on this route.

Honestly when comparing fares with say American Airlines and Frontier there is quite the price difference. My son said most the passengers on his flight down to SDQ were "older" and there were a number of families with kids. Didn't seem to be a "backpacker" crowd.

My flight was mostly 25-50 yr olds. A couple of babies. Several gringos. Two people in wheelchairs (one was a young guy with crutches). And no one clapped when we landed!!!!!

We chose the up front seats with no one in the middle seat, it was $1200 for both. We were entitled to 4 suitcases, took none. Daughter is flying down with two sons next week, $900 for all three including baggage.

We have miles on AA that we were going to let him use but he did not want to go through Miami. He wanted a non-stop out of Philadelphia. More than likely he will be using Frontier for his visits to the DR. Because we (spouse and I) will be coming from the western US we will use AA. Frontier schedule from there really would not work. If we were leaving from Philadelphia, I would really consider Frontier.
