Arajet, the Dominican Republic’s low-cost airline, has announced the opening of ticket sales for its new direct routes connecting the Dominican Republic with Puerto Rico. The routes will connect Santo Domingo (SDQ) to San Juan (SJU) and Punta Cana (PUJ) to San Juan. Arajet has operations out of Las Americas International (SDQ) and Punta Cana International (PUJ).

The airline will be competing with JetBlue, SkyHigh and Frontier (with deals of around US$141 round trip), among other airlines that fly the San Juan to Santo Domingo flight.

The airline announces the flight coinciding with the peak travel time of the year – the summer months.

The announcement was made through social media and in a joint statement between Arajet, the Government of Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, and the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic. These institutions have joined forces in a...

Despite hearing about many complaints from other people in the past, my wife and I flew with Arajet to Medellin from Santiago on two separate occasions in the last 8 months and had no problems with them. I have not flown with SkyHigh and Frontier so I can't comment about their service and it has been years since I have flown with JetBlue, but a few years ago I did fly with Spirit to Miami and I would definitely take Arajet over Spirit!

What a shame that Arajet pulled the STI-MDE flight, now they only fly SDQ and I refuse to travel to and from the capital and have to take a bus to and from Sosua.

Yes, and postposed flights to USA from STI too, also shame they moved 7 destinations from Santo Domingo to fly only from Punta Cana, me and my friends refuse to take a bus to fly with Arajet from Punta Cana. After they stop to fly daily from SDQ Copa, Aeromexico and Avianca are very happy

Did not know that they stopped the STI-MDE flight, how strange as I did that flight twice and the planes were full each time. I was just there over Christmas with my family so they must have only just pulled that flight. A big shame as I love Medellin, it has fast become my favourite city and was easy to get to from Santiago

I guess I will never fly Arajet as well for the same reason. Even using STI would be a stretch for me.

The flight Started in SDQ where passenger boarding in Santo Domingo stayed onboard while passengers from STI board, the stop was 45 minutes. I booked that flight from Santo Domingo and they changed now the departure time from morning to afternoon affecting my plans half day, I got 100.00 voucher for the change and now the flight is nonstop from SDQ.

Yes, I know the flight originated and ended in Santo Domingo, but I am still surprised that they stopped the Santiago - Medellin flight as on the two occasions that I took the flight, there were more passengers boarding in Santiago then those that were already on the plane that boarded in Santo Domingo. I can only hope that they start flying from Santiago again in the near future.
