Just ouch, all I can say ouch. I can't believe this airline arajet that makes you as an passenger to PAY for fuel show in the pricing listing. That is first to me. 99% of airlines out there I flew with neve show this listing. This is too weird, I say.

Also, DR needs to eliminate these 3 fees but keep the tax. That is why everything is expensive either coming in or out of DR.

So the DR fees comes to $46.53. Too much. That needs to be trimmed down
There has always been high taxes/fees associated with travel to/from the DR. There has been as long as I can remember.

actually, all the above seem to be quite reasonable air fare prices, especially the one to Buenos Aires

I am not sure why MiamiDRGuy is surprised, as I said before these taxes/fees are nothing new.

Maybe the "fuel charge" is how Arajet is able to have lower pricing. Because there is no "fuel charge" on AA. Seems to be an Arajet charge as AA does not have this on the same route.

It could be a part of the cost structure of the ticket price. Low-cost airlines seem to have more taxes/fees than other airlines. Also, different countries have different taxes/fees imposed.

This is very true. In Europe Ryanair is a very known low-cost airline and with these, you have to be very careful reading the fee structure. What is shown on the first page as price of a ticket is often far from the end price with all taxes fees. That's how they are partially able to promote cheap pricing.

Fuel in the DR is a lot more expensive than in the US and other countries. I think Arajet is just breaking out this extra cost and showing it as a separate item to show why the fare costs what it does. American tankers extra fuel from Miami so they don't have to buy fuel here because it's so expensive.

I knew about AA and the extra fuel but a ticket from SDQ to EWR on United there is no fuel charge. Just sounds like Arajet/low-cost carriers who price it that way.

For the most part you can always get the fee break down. $184 round trip from Boston In fees and taxes. Using miles/points cuts that some. Be creative. I always do one way tickets. Be flexible and split between AA and Jetblue. Got $1000 from Jetblue flying down in December for giving up my seat and flying into Santiago 5 hours later. Stayed at my farther in laws house 20 minutes from STI. On the way home flight was cancelled From POP. Food voucher, a night at Playa Dorado which I declined and got a $75 buck taxi voucher back to my house 8 minutes away. $200 buck credit and 15K in points. But the credit was not allowed to be used for taxes or fees. So be flexible. Book early before Christmas and reap the rewards. Direct flights always give the best bump cash.

Airlines started charging a "fuel surcharge" when the price of oil started to skyrocket. AFAIK, all airlines still have a fuel surcharge although they might be calling it something else or is buried somewhere other than the ticket. The surcharge is based on what they have to pay over some base amount(?).
