Here is the return from SDQ to MIA breakdown on AA:

Wow I can't believe how much you are paying on this route with American. I book on the British Airways site using Avíos and I get these flights for the equivalent of $ 110 each way. Can be canceled 24 hours before the flight without penalty.

It is not worth to get business class for 2 hours trip. I learned my lesson, to get biz class its suitable for 4 or more hours flight. Since jetblue and AA has tons flights from NYC/Boston to DR so I always get "Extra Space" thing on JB flights because the seats are more comfortable. But if I am tight on money, I'll go down to MIA or FLL via Amtrak then fly on Spirit down to DR. Works like well.

But biz class for 2 hours flight is overrated

Airlines started charging a "fuel surcharge" when the price of oil started to skyrocket. AFAIK, all airlines still have a fuel surcharge although they might be calling it something else or is buried somewhere other than the ticket. The surcharge is based on what they have to pay over some base amount(?).
I had a look into the jet fuel prices, 2022 was a high spike but they have been coming down ever since and are now close to 2018 level. With all these fees and taxes I sometimes wonder how airlines survive, it must be shear volume. Also long haul flights are relative cheap because these fixed costs make up a lot of every ticket price.

How do you fly SDQ-MIA on BA?

If you have status with the airline, you can use the business class check-in, the business class lounges, get free checked bags, priority boarding and also choose any seat in coach, including the emergency exit ones. So there's pretty much no difference with paying a business class fare, other than the price.

I have a friend from school who used to be an olympic level swimmer, with height of 205 cm I think (so 6' 7" or something in feet/inches). Due to sports, he also had to have surgery in the groin area at around the age of 15. Flying for him in the economic class of virtually any airline would be non-stop pain or discomfort at least. Therefore, for health reasons, he has always had to fly at least premium economy or then business, depending on the measurements between seats on a given aircraft... So even 2 hours for him in an economic class would simply be unbearable... Just as an example...

The seats in Economy and Business on short-haul flights (ie. 2 hours) are almost always the same. In Europe they definitely are, you sometimes get the middle seat blocked off, but the seat pitch and width is the same. American has those kind of rocker seats on its mid-haul sectors, like 4-5 hour flights but in my experience no dramatic difference in the seat in business on 2 hour flights. Similarly with Delta, same seats just extra service and lounge access on the shorter sectors.

Some of us have our own reasons paying for business class, no matter how short the flight may be or where we may be originating from. I am perfectly fine with paying for it, but I do appreciate all your suggestions.

Seats on AA, Delta, United in business class are definitely not the same as economy. Nor is the luggage allowance. It is not always about the lounge access for some either.

I always make my reservations and seat selections online, so I know where I'm sitting long before my flight day arrives.

Seat comfort is my first priority, cost is second.

I usually get an exit or bulkhead seat with extra legroom, and have only ended up in First Class a dozen times or so in all of my flights.

Just ouch, all I can say ouch. I can't believe this airline arajet that makes you as an passenger to PAY for fuel show in the pricing listing. That is first to me. 99% of airlines out there I flew with neve show this listing. This is too weird, I say.

Also, DR needs to eliminate these 3 fees but keep the tax. That is why everything is expensive either coming in or out of DR.

Hi, just to be clear on your concern. Today airlnes include charges that they just don't show. For example AA charges the DR airport tax today in the actual fare, you just don't see it. So is you're concern that you just don't want to see transparency in your fare? The $582 seems pretty competitive, just want to understand you're actual concern? Just asking...

The seats on American Business and Economy are not even remotely the same. The Business seats are much wider, more pitch, and a completely different design. Much more comfortable than the economy seats.

The DR is close enough to the east coast of the USA that by the time you begin to feel tired of being in an airplane, it’s time to land. Business class is nice, but not “a must of flights to/from the DR/east coast USA. Flying to Europe or to South America that isn’t Colombia is a different story (well, from NYC might as well include Colombia too, lol.)

That's definitely not the the information I have, please name the airline and aircraft type where this is the case?

Very true, especially if you have a bulkhead or emergency exit row seat on a flight from the DR to MIA. The longer the flight, the more you begin to appreciate business class if you can afford it.
