Southwest tried this (require 2 seats); it did not go very far. Not many others really do require this, they tried but again it did not really get that far.
So, are they now just giving them a seat for free? Some of these people really are so obese they won't fit in a coach seat. In an emergency, they'd be stuck in their seat and you would need a winch to get them out!

Apparently, in the interest of DEI, some airlines are offering up to two free seats if you "identify" as a fat person:

I do wonder when airlines will set a maximum weight for passengers and charge extra for anyone over that weight. I can imagine the likes of Spirit and Ryanair doing this.

The seats are small enough for an average size person. Imagine how uncomfortable it would be to have an obese person encroaching on your seat. Ugh
They have zero consideration for not purchasing a second seat.

How do those $$$ work out for you? I travelled NYC to SAV on amtrak for 2-3 years. Twelve hours and over $200. (Miami, I think is 16 hours). Then put a low cost fare to that plus cab rides to and from train to airport...sounds like total misery. LOL
I have been doing this for 20+ years and never been disappointed, loved it. I always get the sleeper and bring my mini cooler full of beer/rum and enjoy my night in the bedroom and never had problem. For Miami, its 27 hours, btw. I dont need taxi or anything because the train station is technically front of the airport so I take their shuttle over to the terminal.
