Picture of typical middle-class Mexicans

This is a picture of typical middle-class (upper and lower) Mexicans living in Mexico (not in the USA). It clearly shows the "castizo" racial composition (3/4 European, 1/4 Indian). People from LOWER classes look more Indian, particularly those from Oaxaca, Guerrero, Veracruz, Chiapas and other Southern states. Upper class Mexicans are pure or almost pure European. Can someone please post a pic of the typical middle class Dominican (living in the DR)?

I am also convince that most African-Americans in the US are actually mulatto, not black. That is obvious in their brown skin color, not black skin color. Its a shame that they decide to hide under the black label and reject the possibility that they might be something new, something different.

That is probably true. Alot of African-Americans claim to have Native American ancestry as well, but they do not self-identify as Native Americans unless you bring to their attention that they do not resemble most Haitians or black Africans who reside in present day Africa.

Of course, it's not fair to them to accuse them of having an identity crisis without exploring the social, historical context.

I just finished reading the Autobiography of Malcolm X (a mulato by Dominican standards), and it's my sincere belief that the Black nationalist movement(s), in addition to the infamous one-drop rule, had something to do with Americans of African descent resisting the "white is right" ideology and rejecting anything that does not glorify black-identity.

I look like this is haitian forum

estudes haitianos si hablan porqueria y baboseria. yeah why dont you say the bunch of haitian invaders and cocolo that live in DR. do you think that because you come or born in DR, they become white or native caracteristic. do you know how many millon of hatian or haitian origen live in DR and cocolo. the DR cannot do a mirecle that if you are haitan origen so you should be white or native because you live or born in DR.

learn history that the spain bring the less amount of black slaves to DR compare to latin america ( spanish speaker).

the majority of black in DR are from haity or cocolo ( english speaker ) rather than bring by spain in DR. I wish to meet a black origen in DR from slavemaster ( spain)

to the one that put the mexican people you must be a haitan living in mexico or USa. come to DR and you will see that for us that people are not white as you said. maybe for you because you are haitian( black).

all my family is a mix of white ( spain " colonizer in DR" and native ( ciguayos). those mexicans wish to look as white as my family look like or me. and my family most of them are not white.

that is why we will deport all millons of haitians in DR.

We see eye to eye on this. I perfectly understand your statement.

It would just be better if mulattos in the US (which are probably most African-Americans) should feel proud for being who they are (ie. Mulatto) rather than a part of what they are (ie. Black).

They should work into glorifying mulatto-identity.

In the US, being called a mulatto to most African-Americans is almost if not an insult. That has got to change, especially if they do turn out to be mulatto.

Dominicans for the most part are mulattos and most don't have much of a problem accepting that. Of course, there are those that come from the states and believe in "black power". Again, that is fine, but what if you are not really black? What if you are mulatto, despite being partially black a mulatto is also partially white too and there are other variations with native american elements, etc. What then? Is it right to deny one side that makes who you are for the sake of what a few people say?

In my mind, its an absolutely big no. A mulatto should feel just as happy being a mulatto as a real black should feel for being black and a real white for the same reasons.

For Indie's information:

'Mulatto' is defined as: "a person who has one white parent and one black (negro) parent".

Now, how many black (light black, medium black, dark black, whatever..) Dominicans do you know who have a white parent? Not very many.

Dominicans are NOT predominately mulattos. They may be predominately of mixed blood but the white part is generally a long way back and is most certainly not the dominant part of the bloodline. Even if a true 'mulatto' reproduces with a person who is three quarters black and that person in turn reproduces with someone of mostly black blood, then it's fair to say that the vast majority of their ethnic make-up is negro.

If there are so many 'mulattos' in the Dominican Republic, why are they all in the salon 24/7 trying to straighten their 'pelo malo' (which is as a result of their mostly negro blood)????

I really can't understand why Dominicans can't just say, yes I'm black (or at least predominately black) and so what?? With all this BS about mulattos and indios they make it seem like being negro is a crime.
Look. I don't know who you are or where the hell you came from, but I'm only going to say this to you once: stop trying to "teach" and "inform" me. You're not qualified, and the only thing you're doing is talking out of your @ss, got it? And I don't know what the big idea is in resurrecting this thread, but this stuff has been repeated ad nauseum here. So do yourself a favor and stay away from my posts, and don't bother posting a reply because I won't be reading it - - I just put you on my ignore list. Thanks.

Oh, and by the way, Nal0whs.....the fact that I posted here does NOT mean I'm attracted to you.

The only one I see here talking "porqueria y baboseria" as you said, it's you. You should have some respect for black people in Haiti or anywhere else. They are not the ones to blame for their poverty or for "invading" the DR as you said. It is the system that we should blame. African people as well as Indian people have been deprived of many of their basic human rights throughout history, probably by people like you that consider them inferior. And don't tell me you're not a racist, your words confirm it. No, I am not Haitian. I'm Mexican of Spanish, Indian, and French descent but if I ever discover that I have African descent, I would be very proud of being a descendant of such a variety of peoples. I believe racial and cultural mixing makes nations more united as well as more rich in culture. Eventually, there will be only one race in the world, a perfect race derived from the mixing of all ethnic groups. Countries like Brazil are far ahead in this respect than most other countries. No wonder why they are such a united nation with very little racism (as well as being very good-looking from so much mixing). They have created such a racial harmony that makes the US seem very uncivilized and barbarian. I mean, people in the US are divided into Whites, Latins, Asians, blacks. Intermarriage is not common and it is also almost impossible to see people of one race hanging out with people of another race. There are also Black neighborhoods, Hispanic neighborhoods, White neighborhoods, etc. The US is extremely racially divided and the government likes to keep it like that. Going back to your post, I never said those mexicans were white, I said they were "castizos", meaning approximately 75% European, 25% Indian but since you called me a Haitian, that easily explains why they don't seem too white to you, they're probably Ethiopians in your perception.....lol...

What are you talking about? Am i the only one like: WTF!?

First, learn to spell Haitian,Haiti,Haitiano, whatever.

A majority of blacks in DR are from Haiti???

Just like a majority of BLACKS/Africans from Haiti are slaves from Africa. It wasnt DR in the colonial times yet. They roamed around the whole island(which is not that big) and settled in various places(including present day DR) when they became free.

So if there are Dominicans that are black, THEN THEY ARE BLACK!!! It doesnt always mean they are Haitian or had Haitian parents and etc...

I hate when people dont accent some "Blackness" in DR.

Im glad im not the only one that saw her as making racist type remarks. She talks like black is bad and that blackness in a Hispanic county are Haitians fault. Ive never heard(read) such ignorance.

Nice comment you made about Brazil. No racism = peace and understanding.

Ay Dios Mio!!!

Brazil is MIXED as hell with whites, blacks, etc.... And the mixture has created one of the most beautiful(if not the most beautiful) people in the world.

They've (Brazilians) accepted it. Why cant some of the people on here accept it?

I still cant get over it....

"the majority of black in DR are from haity or cocolo ( english speaker ) rather than bring by spain in DR. I wish to meet a black origen in DR from slavemaster ( spain)"

So you're telling me if you're black, you're Haitian?

"to the one that put the mexican people you must be a haitan living in mexico or USa. come to DR and you will see that for us that people are not white as you said. maybe for you because you are haitian( black)."

This point you just used no common sense. Are you trying to say the dark-skinned/Black people in MEXICO are Haitians? Just think for a minute and remind yourself that Mexico is a whole gulf(Gulf of Mexico) away. I dont think they take boat to Mexico and I dont think many go to work and live in Mexico. They might as well take their chances goin to the US via boat.

GO LOOK AT A MAP!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, Brazilian men and women are very good-looking. They are also far more mixed than Dominicans (mainly Spanish and African). Brazilians are mainly a mixture of Portuguese, African, Italian, German, and Indian. There's also lots of Japanese heritage (Sao Paulo is the city with the largest population of Japanese living outside Japan). While the US may have more people of different ethnic groups, the wonderful thing about Brazil is that people of different races are not afraid to mix with each other. This has resulted in such a beautiful combination of traits that few other countries have. Probably in the future, when Americans realize the value of a united country, they will stop categorizing people into races and will follow Brazil's example. It is interesting to hear a Chinese born in the US refer to himself as a Chinese or Asian rather than as an American. Mexican-Americans call themselves Chicanos and blacks call themselves African-Americans. I have never heard a black Brazilian refer to himself as "African-Brazilian"....lol... or a Brazilian of Portuguese descent call himself "Latin" or "Iberian". In Brazil, everyone is a Brazilian and the terms "black","white" refer to color of skin, not race.

Yes, black, brown, white should be used as skin colors, not race.
Im a light brown skin color(at least in the winter) and when someone calls me black, i say "Im not black, Im brown" That usually gets a few laughs but its true. Im not the color of charcoal or a tire. Im more the color of caramel or a brown wooden chair.
