I have never lost a thing in the safe in a hotel room here, or anything not locked up. Yes, they can be opened by a staff member, the security guy that will only do that with you on his shoulder. It's usually because that batteries died or that you misdialed your password. Also, with all of the video surveillance and lock controls, staff violating protocols, much less stealing, fear getting blacklisted from any of the good hotels. By the way, your combination changes when it is key/master opened. Air bnb or non major hotels, I hadn't lost anything there either.
