Are people living in USA are really better off than us here?

I'm glad that you found time to write about my barking dogs:ermm: but undermining my community for wanting some peace a quite has nothing to do with being old, if you like loud noises, and students living around you, then that's fine, my dog does bark alot all day all night, but I was just making the point that it is the only "end" disturbance I have in my neighborhood other then that, I can brag about this place anytime!

Hey,

It's not that I don't have time to write about anything else. That is just the only part that struck me the most. I agree with everything else that you say. I love living in Orlando. Para el gusto se hicieron los colores. For your information, I do not live in a university area like you insinuate. I live in a normal neighborhood with all types of people in which students and professionals are included. If I did live in a student community I wouldn't mind because guess what... I am a 22 year old university student. That is why I say that we will not all be happy in the same place. I couldn't live in a retired person's community. I do not live in the suburban type neighborhood either because I don't live with my parents anymore.

BTW, I did not say that you are old.

That's the problem with you people in the island..this is why your community is the way it is today..fix your own house before you try to critisize another, especially a quality community like Orlando.. you feel the need to undermine other places to make your own disfunctional community seem normal... it's nobody's fault but the people and the Dominican goverment...if you want to pursuade everyone that your community is the place to be... then your newspapers and news shows should not be saying the opposite... you complain about corruption, say things are worse, you admit to lack of education, and lack of quality pay for employment or lack of employment, garbage problems, bad water, no electrical power, etc... this is not just in a major Dominican city these problem stems throughout the whole country, and then you have the "BALLS" to critisize neighborhoods in the U.S. especially when you've never lived there! (Orlando)....NOW, I have never underminded any city other then SDQ...because I've lived there, worked there, and have currently athletic programs running there, and I have a multitude of family living there from poilicemen to politicians...but I have never said here, that Bonao is a crime ridden city, WHY! because if I did I probably be wrong, and even though some isolated incidents or crimes may occur, the community over-all as a whole is probably a very peaceful place.

I will tell you like this... Orlando will run circles around any neighborhood in the D.R. per square meter...starting with it's airport! argue this if you must, but I have nothing more to say about it.....I admired your post because you normally stick with what you know...but you have commited a foul trying to discredit such a family oriented town like Orlando....I know you have more commensense then that!
Relax! The sky is not falling!

If Orlando is your place and you feel insulted when people pin point the few stray hairs of that area, well don't think people from other places appreciate your own finger pointing towards them!

My point was that your sense of security is only as much of an illusion as is peoples sense of insecurity in other places. Why? Because we judge places by our immediate sorroundings and if the sorroundings are good, then the attitude is that everything is good, but, it's like you said, read the newspaper.

Just because you don't see something, does not means it does not exist!

Laws,rules,regulations,policies, provisos, codes etc.........

......The US is chock full of them! In order to stay within the laws & avoid dire consequences, you must stay on top of what's happening around you!
If high crime wasn't enough of a headache (to put it mild it), one needs to thread very, very carefully as you go about your business.

Case in point:A cops stops and gives me a ticket for $280.00 for driving with suspended plates. Why? Because I was sent a notice to have my car inspected at the "emissions station" but this notice was sent to my old address so I never got it. Now, whose fault is it? mine? theirs? Does it matter? I'm still going to have to pay it regardless. I'm just hoping that it won't hike up my car insurance.

This is the kind of thing that complicates life to the max. Right now I have to rely on my wife or nephew to get me back and forth to work. I'm afraid to use my car & risk another fine. This lack of transport affects my income substantially. I lose money because someone in motor vehicles goofed and theres nothing I can do about it!!

The phrase "A nation that governs less, governs best" is lost to every legislator here in US. It seems, More and more laws, regulations etc. are being enacted every day ad infinitum.

This is a nation of: You DO that, you pay. You DON'T do that, you pay. And, oh yeah, "ignorance of the law is no excuse"!!

These is typical of what makes life so complicated & stressful here. You have to be on the alert always not just from criminals but the police as well who won't hesitate to do their job at the slightest suspicion of infringement.

Why am I still here in US? Because, as bad as it is, I can still earn enough $ to pay mortgage, children's private school & occasional outing to restaurants. I'm here because I have to be, for the same reason most people want to come; to work like hell and educate their children. To make enough money & cover the basic necessities. You find economic opportunities here that, as of yet, you won't find in DR.

Are we better off here in US than in DR? Yes for some. As for me, if I could earn 1/3 there of what I make here, In spite of its troubles, I'd absolutely be happier there! It would be a dream come true!

Being materialistic and spoiled sure does get tough...

Hi all, I think I'm just gonna hop on this band wagon. I think it's REALLY funny how anyone could think it's all that hard to live in the U.S.. (and btw, if you think taxes are high there, take a look a your neighbour to the north...) I have a GREAT idea: buy a Toyota instead of a BMW and get a house with 1 less living room and then nobody will need to stress out over working too many hours :)
Though I must agree, I'd rather live in a shack in the campo than in a loft in NYC (never knowing the next time I'll be mugged :p )

P.S. Don Juan, you might wanna try something like, say, getting your mail forwarded... it would have saved you a pretty penny (too little, too late I suppose).

P.S. Don Juan, you might wanna try something like, say, getting your mail forwarded... it would have saved you a pretty penny (too little, too late I suppose).

When we looked to buy our new home three years ago, we opted for the smaller, cheaper one to stay within budget. The vehicles we have are nothing fancy. Just sensible, basic modes of transport.

We don't make tons of $ so we must live frugally. The one thing we splurge on are our children's education so they won't end up like us, slaves to the circumstances.

Stress comes in all forms, some we create, some we don't. Right now it is 15 Fahrenheit and the roads are all iced up (at least in my neighborhood). No one leaves the house. We both work for ourselves which means no $ if we can't perform our duties. And how are bills gonna get paid? It's all very frustrating!

Let me make on thing clear: I always felt privileged and grateful for all the opportunities this country has given me. Opportunities that likely, I wouldn't have found in DR... This is a greatest country in the world in terms of its economy, educational endeavors, etc. but it's just not fun to live here. We work hard to satisfy our basic needs but by year's end, there's not much $ left over for us. Not even a two week vacation in DR!

Do I want to move back? Of course!! But we're just too chicken to take the risk!

PS. I put in my change of address the day after we moved from our former home.

My point was that things of all kinds happen everywhere, regardless.

In addition, every place on this planet has a specific area where things rarely happen as well!

Our sorroundings dictate our illusion of safety or danger.

With all those women in the USA...you could not find ONE!!! Amazing. Yet...I understand. Because I know that men in the USA...DONT GET LAID. They don't even get looked at. They don't get to touch a woman, kiss a woman...all that is so important to being a man and being human. And society has reworked itself so that it is acceptable. Don't you find that just a bit strange? You are conditioned to believe it is okay to be without the touch of a woman. And if a guy squeezes your honker, that is okay too.

Men in New York DON'T GET LAID because they are too focused on their career goals. Not only that, having a family is not a priority on their list. New York men readily want to take a woman to bed, but they don't want to offer any commitment. They just want to have a good old time. As soon as a woman says that she would like to be serious or have a family. These men in NY run so fast, that they leave skid marks. I'm sure Dominican men get laid more often due to the priority that is placed on family and meaningful relationships.

In the USA people are brainwashed to believe that america is the best place to live in the world. There is always a new product in the market that you are made to believe that you should have. You gotta have that new car, You gotta have the bigger house, you gotta keep up with the Jones'. To be able to have all these nice things, people end up being stuck in the rat race. Work, get paid, pay bills, work, get paid, pay bills. People continue this rat race until the age of 65 when they retire and collect the meager social security check. Following the pattern of working, getting paid and paying bills until the age of 65 or 67. Is no way to live life. In fact that is not living. It is like being a robot. DR is a country that gives you the opportunity to make profitable investments that could put you out of the rat race and into spending more time with your family.
Americans are so focused on material things, that attention is withdrawn from what really matters. What matters most in life is not all those material things you got yourself. It is the people in your life that matter most. Namely, your family, friends and children. It is better to live in a small house surrounded with the love of your significant others than to live in a luxurious mansion alone without love. It is better to eat a piece of bread with water in peace than to eat in a banquet where there are verbal fights and resentments going on. In other words spiritual things like family, friends, love, are what contribute to your true happiness and inner peace. It is not money or material possesions.
