So a Guest at an AI resort , where one is supposed to feel SAFE, is beaten by an Employee no less, not even a guest , and left for dead, and this is not " News" in the DR ?

sounds like a much bigger problem then..
This story is so Brutal , if true , it should have been brought to the attention of the Minister of Tourism for that Region, if not Higher ..
but , again ,, lack of evidence

For the media, in the DR, to be aware that an attack occurred then a resort/hospital employee (who was aware) or the police would have had to alert media sources. Guessing nobody did.

This statement holds no water. Absolutely ridiculous, yes..."anyone who has lived in the DR for any length of time knows." Actually, it is quite the opposite.

Oh man, the PN can't find their a$$ with both hands. I called PN for a break-in and pointed out that the perpetrator had left an entire full handprint on a mirror and that maybe that could be evidence! The PN captain said that was interesting how I would think such a thing, but "that is just Hollywood". I have visited PN offices several times over the years and most don't even have enough chairs for everyone to sit down, no paper or pens, and they always want some money for "gasoline" - they could care less about solving a crime against a gringo.

So you are ASSUMING, whereas you Presumed another person was doing the same, evenhough they phrased it as a question...

And if we are not allowed to ask " questions", especially about such a SERIOUS matter, where our WIFE or GF may get beaten to an INCH of her LIFE inside an AI resort of all places
then .. what is the point of discussing anything at all on this platform ??..

and so thanks for the 2 dislikes to the poster who also ironically stated in one of his previous posts on a diff thread that " no questions are stupid, , we are all here to learn from each other "

So much Irony .

The woman posted the story on her Facebook page for free. ;-)
Some of the responses here remind me of blaming the victim. Example: You were raped.... What were you wearing? shame shame. Not a bad word about the attacker? What is wrong with some of you DR1 detectives ?!
My take away from the story is that women need to be careful when traveling. Never assume you are safe in a resort with security guards. Do not walk alone in remote areas of the resort at night.
I sure hope they find and prosecute the attacker.

I do not pretend to be Theo Kojak, and your assessment of the local authorities is unfortunately correct in many situations, BUT...historically, the PN has taken a very serious approach to crimes against foreigners within the RD. Real crimes that is.

I disliked because your questions insinuate that the victim is a liar. I never like it when a victim gets blamed. EVER!

It probably was, and no surprise the MoT would try to suppress such a story for obvious reasons...not to mention wanting the perp whacked..

Certainly we want to believe victims.

Unfortunately, there are so many fake victim stories it is understandable why many have become sceptical.

Does it not seem as if the victim's story blames the AI resort, the police, and the justice system within the RD? Is there not insinuation occurring within here? Why were no others interviewed for the article? Of course, only the author truly knows why. I will message the author via email, and if I receive a response I will share within this web forum.

How would the media, in the DR, be aware that the attack occurred?

The same way they found out about the couple in Las Terrenas disappeared, the man in La Mulata was killed, and many other tourists who have been robbed, beaten, disappeared, or killed.

There have been numerous other incidents not as serious as this that have happened at resorts in Punta Cana that have made it into the news - like the guy who had three chicas in his room, took too many Viagra, and had a heart attack. There's too many many people incidentally involved in cases like this for word not to get out.

There are few more complaint about diferents ways of turist being affected for certain kind of delinquency, so what I think is goverment and mitur must pay atention on it and ask for a real and effective investigation to clarify this case because that is very bad signal.

While her experience was certainly horrific, keep in mind there are 6,000,000+ foreign visitors every year to the DR.

These are isolated incidents, the exceptions.

This is not a small, drive up, out of the way type of accommodation. It is a major, highly regarded, high capacity AI resort. No security video cameras on sight? No other witnesses? This is not blaming a victim, which all too often gets interjected into a narrative to brush some serious questions aside. I am sure lawyers for the resort and investors have the same questions. No, no blame. Yes, a deeper probe is required.

Yeah it probably isn't turbo widespread, but it happens. It happens in Jamaica, Mexico, USA, Spain etc., hotel resort employees do attack women. A Canadian women was attacked at Grand Bahia Principe Turquesa last year, by a security guard. Management would not even show her photos of employees, and they never contacted the police. Management later claimed in emails that they fired the security guard. Trip Advisor used to delete posts by women who claimed they were attacked, and now they do the opposite, they highlight the claims I believe.

As we know sir, there are always at least two sides to every story. We have read one side only. Some choose not to believe everything they read without hearing the other side, myself included.

You have asked legitimate questions which will probably never get answered. So for you and others to be doubtful is your freedom to do so. :)

This proper web forum also contains a policy that if you want to disparage an established business within RD you must provide your personal information along with the remarks. Most web based enviorns have similar policies.

Most of the reviews on Trip Advisor are people using a user name, nick name or something.

This is spreading like wildfire on FB and the DR better do something to catch and prosecute this guy or risk loosing lots of tourists $$$. Don’t know why the resort didn’t pay for her medical expenses, negative publicity will cost them a lot more.
