the plot thickens.....
strikes me that the hotel acted quickly and efficiently....
now - we're talking dinero
First, never under-estimate my stupidity...it knows no bounderies!
1. Where is the evidence that the US Embassy offered to aid her in filing charges? And would she be required to go to the police station once she got out of the hospital to do so?
2. Why would she want to return back to the DR to file charges? IN every other country, there would be no need for this. The police took her report at the hospital. Done deal! Why take off work and come all the way back down to the DR...for what..spend thousands of dollars just to do some more paper work?
3. She has every right to ask for money if the attack happened on hotel grounds and her family or friends were not involved.
4. You say the husband was never a suspect? They must had a good reason for that, no? And they did speak to him at the hospital, no? They would have noticed something about his hands, face, etc, no?
The parallel is this: I was arrested with four other good, hard working Dominicans as suspects for a girl's murder. I saw first hand the DR police's lack of investigation work. To say it was a joke would be an insult to jokes. To say it was horrendous is an insult to the word horrendous. It was beyond anything anyone here can imagine, and its beyond what anyone here would be familiar with in the USA or Europe.
So, for the woman to go back home thinking, "Ok, I'm fine now, the police will take over and do their thorough police investigation and find the suspect," would be the normal feelings for anyone of us that has no experience with the DR police.
I know better.
Whatever happened with the case of the missing Floridian (Ex-professional tennis player) in Cabarete? How did their fabulous police work with in that case?
I understand that in some cases the police fair well, and they catch the right people. But maybe those cases have everything laid out for them--eye-witnesses, paper trails, fingerprints, etc.
When those things are not available, how good are their forensic teams here? Do they even have a forensic team here?
Again, I hope it is not a Dominican, because who wants that kind of bad publicity? No one.
Frank -- shake your head a bit...
WHO ELSE WILL RESPOND.... the front desk chica !!

the insurance company told them to bugger off.
that means one thing...they know something that the couple does not think they know. insurance companies never show their hands. they deny your claim, and put the ball in your court. they dare you to bring your case...
