I don't know the answer, but how many are "we", and what are expectations for the excursions?

Here are some guidelines

Based on some experience. I am sure you can pinpoint these numbers a bit better
Escursions--figure between $50-75 per excursion check with Hotel
Tips. You should budget $1.00 per day for maid that cleans your room, $1.-- per bag for porters pr Bell hops at airport and hotel

Taxis..no tipping needed.

Quality rum can be bought in any supermarket for $10 or less..
Quality cigars are as much as $125 a box...But bewware of fakes.
Nothing Cuban can be trusted.
Dominican brand cigars are top of the line, and legit.

Thanks Hillbilly!
IHTOWN- there will be two of us, and as far as excursions, we don't really hve any expectations. Some possibililties We're looking into doing is going to Saona Island, a day trip to Santa Domingo, maybe a 4x4 wheeler, Manati Park to swim with the dolphins, a motor safari and IF we are feeling adventurous, a cascading trip.

Bring US$400 between the two of you, an ATM card each, and a couple credit cards of type MasterCard or Visa each. You'll be fine. If you plan to gamble, add that to the suggested amount.

This will pay for sundries at the hotel beach shop, tips, taxis, a couple nights outside the resort, perhaps a nightclub or dinner, a couple motorized water sports events, and some souvineers.

Anything extra you can get using your ATM cards or credit cards via cash advance at the ATM of walk-in at any bank.
