Miesposa makes the distinction that the preferred Dominican avocado is described as an "aguacate lechoso," i.e., an aguacate that is creamy in character. Are these lechoso?

I have three varieties on my fincanita. One tree is the long ones Alterego posted the picture of and one tree is ones that are almost round, the others are the pear shaped ones. They all taste good and the round ones ripen about a month later than the others.

We have 5 different avocado tree varieties, about 120 trees, an assortment of semil 34, carla, poponol, criollo, and morado [purple ones]. The poponol bears fruit twice a year, hopefully we'll be there for the next harvest.

And sadly, we're in NJ now, where avocados are $2.29, if you can even find one that isn't a haas. Mr. AE has heard that there are now huge haas plantations in the southwest, for export.

Yesterday we had chivo guisado, white rice, black beans, tomato & basil salad, and NO avocado. How sad is that??

Mangoes and Avocados are kind of the perfect foods and negate the myth that it costs a lot of money to eat healthy in RD.
