Azua bar temporarily closes after Sunday tragedy

Roadside bar-lounge where the tragedy occurred / El Caribe

The Ministry of Interior & Police ordered the temporarily closed the roadside bar-lounge in Bastida, Azua where six people so far are reported dead after a truck loaded with avocados plunged into the entertainment business at 1am on Sunday, 1 September 2024. The lounge was full of people there to have a good time. The authorities say there are 37 injured, several still in regional hospitals.

In his weekly press conference on 2 September 2024, President Luis Abinader acknowledged tragedies such as this one will continue as long as businesses and houses continue to be built and operated beside main roads.

The President said new measures will be announced shortly to improve road safety now that there is a new Minister of Interior and Police (Faride Raful) and a new director of the Transit and Transport...

Gosh how awful. When are they going to regulate these trucks? The president is saying that the issue is that the bar is built too close to the road, nothing to do with the fact that the donkey driving the truck can't drive and was probably drunk.

Amazing !!! Now there are going to build a concrete wall next to any business that is closed to a Highway or what !?
Same thing as closing a disco after somebody gets shot inside. You can't make this up.

I guess similar to post 9/11in NYC when they built concrete posts around every bank, building, gov. office, Micky D's etc.
They put a new meaning to concrete jungle.
