Me hablas a mi?......

You mean to tell me that you would still call it "crapchata" after watching that video of the bachata sensual dancers. Didn't you feel something that kept you watching, that's exactly how I felt when I was watching those tango dancers last night, when the woman would run her leg down the man's leg and he would pause just to feel it, it was magic, very sensual, just beautiful, just like that couple in the bachata video dancing to aventura's bachata.
Roger and IN, wahahaha!!.

Didn't watch the video but I rather take a Tango dancer (female of course) any day of the week.

Let's not compare "Mate" with "Platano" here, as they are, IN MY OPINION, in different leagues!.

But "cada cabeza es un mundo"......

Roger and OUT # 2!!.

Lambada: I danced that song in SIXTH grade as part of Culture Week during a school assembly! That was so much fun! I was in the ESL Class and our little spanish group taught all those American kids just what we can do with our hips at that early age. :)

Oh my God, that reminds me of that documentary with the little kids in NYC!

Wow I just watched the tango video that Anna posted.
Wow and wow, my heart is racing, it was beautiful, but the dancing I saw was not really as good as that but it was mesmerizing as well.

If you live in Santo Domingo,we are tangoing tonite!!!!
I will teach you if you know how a little.

I have just moved to the DR after living three years in Beijing. My job was really cool and they found the one person who does know how to tango here for me in Santo Domingo. So, I met with her the second day I was here, and we danced for two hours straight. She was calling her daughter and friends over to watch us. She is a little older and she is really cool. When I slid her on the floor, her daughter told me "If you break her, you pay for her." ;-) I was so happy. Tango is unlike ANYTHING in the world.

When I learned tango...I gave up all of my hobbies. I gave it all up when the letters of tango finally became words and, in turn, became a story. I have done other dances as well, but tango, especially nuevo tango, is like yoga and meditation as you rely on breathing to raise or lower your partner, all the while the girl has her eyes closed. It is like magic. I have been so connected with my partner that when the third song finished, the music no longer playing, her eyes were still closed and her arm was barely unthawing itself from my shoulder. When you see tangeros moving, if you could feel what they are feeling in this sensual experience, a near orgasm, you would be feeling tenseness, strength, pulling you, arms first through a needle's eye. And you skin gets lit up like a Christmas tree. Eat some chocolate before you do it and it is like doing viagra with ecstasy, but you are feeling it with ANOTHER PERSON. I have seen bachata and it is cool. But when I watch tangeros they are somewhere else, in another world--no spinning, separating you from each other...lost in a connection that can only make me say one thing about tango, a thing every other tangero will declare as well with undivided sincerity: Tango is not just dancing.
GOD DAMN IT!!!! Who is going to tango with me tonite!!!!??? I got the floor and I got the music.

Yes, that was amazing tango description. Thanks! Now I understand why my father loved this dance that much.... I wish I was as good at it as he was. I guess I have to practice, practice and practice.

I think bachata will not make it to the same level - moving your hips to music even if eating chocolate before does not have the same effect ...

In my opinion Bachata has come a long way, but has so much further to go. Will it ever be accepted by the mainstream - I think so but not for the foreseeable future.... But it is gaining acceptance internationally!

2 visitors came recently and I arranged bachata lessons for them. They were taught by an American in Europe how to dance bachata. It was a bit stilted - not unusual compared to how it is danced here. They wanted to learn how Dominicans dance it.

For a native Merengue Bachata and Salsa just come from the music and your body. It tends NOT to be choreographed, it tends to just flow.

So you know, the "hip" action as a base action comes from the "knees" NOT the hips. Once you have that action figured you can add drama, exaggeration and rotation to your hip action!

Question for Migel - Salsa is your favourite - does that mean you can dance it too?????? We shall see when I visit you in September!

Soy salsero de pura cepa! Amongst other things, I'm a salsa choreographer/instructor here in L.A. Does anyone seriously know what's up with the salsa scene in SD? If it's not happening, hopefully I can make a significant contribution.

Darlene, when I was a young lad, MUCHISIMO years ago, I used to participate in Salsa Dancing Contests at the Casa Borinquen Discoteque in Brooklyn. (Never won but came in third once. Third, big fricking deal, haha).

The moves are not there anymore but I think I can still shake my bones a little bit.

Nowadays, I rather listen to it and look at people dancing it. To me, it's a delight to watch people dance it, big time!.

But I don't mind, if alone with a darling, to dance salsa "clothesless", whahaha!!.

Ohhhh the HORROR!!!!!.

Roger and OUT # 3.....Please let it be the last one, please.....

Dmoraga, very nice description indeed. But I dont smoke...

I guess you can feel like this depending who you are dancing bachata with. Have you all seen dirty bachata dacing?? You get to hump your partner every 4th step!! Talk about foreplay at its best there. ;)

TD, one question, I heard you are a great dancer or that you enjoy dancing, well that last one I heard from u, ...so, in order for you to enjoy dancing, must you also be attracted to your partner.

I love dancing and sometimes I find myself a partner who all he wants to do is rub on me or talk endlessly in my ear and sometimes its impossible to enjoy a good bachata, merengue or salsa up close.

what? hump on every 4th step??? hehe I need to get out more. so TD what are the good dancing places in the tristate area?

Mar, I'm going to go out on limb here and suppose that you forgot your Aciphex today... you dont remember our last reunion in NYC? we ended up dancing it up a storm!

I dont think I said the words: I am a good dancer. I do however, ENJOY AND LOVE dancing. I dont particularly think I'm great at it, I just dance every chance I get. I alson love singing in the shower, that does not make me a good singer but I do it every time I can as well! LOL

At any rate, I usually go dancing w/people I know or places where I know the people. I either know the staff, owner/manager, or promoters. Very rarely do I go with a girlfriend to a place where we dont have some sort of connection. So that eliminates dancing with some sort of stranger (most of the time). But if I go with a guy or a group - I'd go anywhere where it is safe and cool.

I dont like ANYBODY I dont know rubbing up on anything near me. In fact, when regueton plays, I'm out there with my girls and dont usually let strangers dance that music with me. Is just too intimate to share in public - I do all my humping alone and in the air!

As far as dancing with a partner that I know and I am attracted to, then all bets are off. Por eso no puedo pegar cuernos... there's no guessing if I am with my man or if I like that guy. ;)

So in essence and after 5 paragraphs - as for me: yes, there is a BIG difference in how I dance with a man that I know and like and how much I enjoy the experience.

Places: depends on the day of the week you wanna go out.

NJ: Tribecas is still good on Fridays and 46 Lounge is good on Saturdays.
NY: LQ's on Wednesdays (Salsa night) and also on Saturdays, they close at 5AM. The Whiskey Bar at the W Hotel in Times Square is good 7 days a week and tries to be exclusive. But if you want more details and place or need to get a list, PM me...

heheheh no you forgot you aciphex, whatever that is, you forgot that I wasn't at the Parrilla, I went home after the first restaurant, so someone who was there told me about the dancing.

I'll reply to the rest when I come back from lunch.
