Most give 10% for cash, and 5% for CC, doesn't matter if it's debit or credit. I gave up long ago asking why that was with a debit card; all I ever got was a shrug.
I didn't realize the pharmacies generally give a discount if using a credit card...they may as well just lower all their prices by that 5%! I think they do incur a fee when the purchaser use a debit card just as they do with a credit card, so that probably answers why the debit card discount is the same. I thought that was why they gave the cash discount, as do several vendors if you ask...especially nice on larger purchases.

How does that work? Do you have pensions deposited directly into your DR accounts. Peso or USD? Is there a cost involved? Much delay?

When I want cash I send it to myself and pick it up at a bank or some place like Caribe Express. Same service has a debit type card that you can “load” and you can hold a variety of currencies if traveling. Use it like a debit card. I also use a CC when it is an option. Then I would likely choose debit.

I have a CC with no foreign exchange fees and a debit card with no charge for withdrawals. Not sure how you’ve made it cheaper, so please expand you answer.
Similar to @cavok, I've compared the costs of wiring US dollars to my account here and then exchanging for pesos as needed, versus using various transfer services to send to myself as you describe. I do come out ahead by wiring the money to my account. I don't exchange for pesos in the bank, it's obviously advantageous to do that in Caribe Express or other "casas de cambio" as needed. Everyone has their reasons for moving money as they choose to do so, as long as it works for them!

The merchants I've dealt with will only give a discount if you pay in cash.
