The southcentral province Peravia is historically famous for its intellectuals and political leaders. But that was then, and this is now. June to July is the peak of mango season in the Dominican Republic. Most of the mangos here come from Peravia, best known for its capital city, Baní.

Today Baní is world-known as the Mango Capital. In 2022, the Peravia province’s main crop is expected to produce some US$40 million in exports alone. This is in addition to the massive amount of the crop that is consumed all over the country thanks to the efficient logistics that place the iconic fruit in all the major supermarkets of the nation.

In fact, you cannot get to any place in the Deep South without passing through Bani and its dozens and dozens of mango sellers. It is doubtful that this will end when the new beltway around the city is completed.

Me , I love me some Mangoes .. they grow wild and fall out of the trees like gifts from above. I am always amazed how everyone has at least one Mango Tree on their Property .

Some of the best mongo on the island for sure. One terrific mango banilejos is colloquially known as the mamellito. A sweet succulent, rich tasting, silky mango with papaya like deep orange pulp, without the stringiness associated with many mangos that usually ends up lodged in the teeth. Truly a concise representation of foods of the gods.

Mangos Banilejos delicious but my favorite is El Mango Yamagui.

There are variety of mangos in DR, the worse one is El mango Maracaton.

Maracaton is very common in La Línea Noroeste.

Maracatón is almost as bad as mango Guerrero, which, in my opinion, has got to be the worst-tasting mango.
Guerreros are so bad...
"How bad are they?"

Oh! Believe you me: they are bad.

You can eat the mango skin, bite it like a apple, my lips sometimes get tingly & numb though.

I bought some today, not comparable with Mangos Banilejos or Yamagui.

When I have to pay US $2.00 it comes to my mind good memories from my last house in Santiago, every evening Rocío and I used to pick a buckle full of mangos.they was everywhere laying on the ground fallen from five different type of Mango trees.
Hillbilly can say some about, I gave him a full sack one day.
