The Ministry of Education announces it has received 537,432 electronic tablets it will distribute to public school students. The batch is 67% of a recent order of the electronic devices to back remote learning programs. Only a handful of schools are authorized to reopen to in-person learning and distance learning programs are the norm for the 2020-2021 school year. The school year ends 29 July 2021. Education Minister Roberto Fulcar says the Ministry has spent RD$5.55 billion for the purchase of the tablets.
The Ministry reports the breakdown of the tablets by brands is: Samsung Galaxy (309,960), Alcatel Aquaman (217,432), and Lenovo (10,040).
As reported, the education authorities have already distributed around 1.5 million laptops for teachers in the school year that began in November 2020.
