The main subject on the UK's BBC news on Monday was a report about how terrible life is in Haiti, and the rest of the world is not watching or interested. The news started with an 8 min film report before it turned to anything happening in the UK. This was followed by another report yesterday which was again in the main news. I am wondering what the motivation is behind this reporting, why now?

The report is slightly inaccurate. Canada has placed sanctions on six (6) Haitians to date, not just two. Those six include 3 political figures and 3 businessmen. The sanctions froze all of their Canadian bank accounts.

I read both the reports on BBC on line and one was particularly interesting with a map of the territories held by the rival gangs. These articles have been removed from the BBC page already which is unusual . What I think has happened is that a film was sent to the BBC with some commentary and a BBC staff member added some additional information. I do not believe that the BBC sent a reporter and a camera man to Haiti . The BBC is only a shadow of itself these days and relies heavily on information from associated sources . For example the Australian Broadcasting Commission ABC supplies the Australian content and South Africa likewise. And so I not think that there is anything significant about the timing of the Haiti stories, it is just when the BBC received the reports

They probably figured out that the tv ratings were higher for the death and destruction in Haiti than the ratings for domestic news.

Actually it was not on the TV news , at least not the International edition , but was in BBC online.

Yes they did send a reporter to Haiti, a lady called Orla Guerin. She is one of their top reporters, she normally covers wars and natural disasters. She was one of the first to report on the Ukraine war for example. Regarding Haiti she has done a series of reports which are shown with the main news at 10pm.

I watch the BBC News from the UK using a proxy server and it was definitely on the Monday night 10 o'clock news, the main headline and a long film was the first item on the news. And then a second film on Tuesday. I didn't watch it yesterday but they said they were reporting on it all week. Orla Guerin is definitely in Haiti at the moment.

I must confess that I do not watch the 10 pm news .. I have BBC on my TV package with Altice. I watch during the day as the news repeats itself regularly and I did not see it . Anyway one of the online reports was very good.

The Billionaire Oligarch Who’s Enabling Haiti’s Murderous Gangs

Incredibly fascinating article. I have previously mentioned the Lebonese money changer that I worked with in okap. He was definetly rich.
