I'm not saying they don't have an agenda, but the BBC is setup differently to most media networks. Every household in the UK has to pay a TV license fee that is used to help fund the BBC, plus it's ad free.
It's basically owned by everybody that has a TV in the UK and it's run by trustees appointed by the Queen. The BBC is often under public scrutiny, not because they do anything wrong, but because of the above situation.

Regardless of the recent scandal, they are still regarded as the news service that all others are judged by. Their website has for the past 4 years continually won every award, globally and in Europe relating to news and educational media.

Their coverage of the Haiti situation has been very good and extensive.
With 18,000hrs of programming each year, they pump out a lot of news.
