I go to Cabarete, to the market in Sosua, and buy coffee there, can't remember the brand, but when I go this February,, I will look this brand up. I love their (Dominican) coffee, best in the world, even better with their rum..lol! Love the mamajuana, and always bring some of that home as well.

Blue Mountain is very good, as is Kona,.....etc. Taste is in the mouth of the individual. Some like a french dark roast while others like a lighter more medium roast. The same goes for the coffee. My all time favorite is Ethiopian.

The best coffee? the best Hamburger, the best barbeque, the best tamale jajajajajajaI agree with Bob, Taste is different to everyone and the best really means nothing. I should say coffee you like. I like cheap coffee that wakes me up. not into exotic over priced stuff to impress the starbucks cashier. I buy 2.98 a can. jajajaja My wife buys the coffee most times so i do not know what it is

Ethiopian is great, Bob. As is Costa Rican Tarrazu.

Coffee, like wine, is such a unique expression of the land it springs from- soil, altitude, precipitation, sunlight, etc.

Drinking Sumatran at the moment.

I guess you could say the best coffee is the one you've got in your mug.

or the one that tastes best in a blind taste test. i bet half the guys who claim to be experts would not be able to tell the difference between a 50 dollar per ounce hoi polloi blend and some sawdust from Starbucks.

We bought it for the first time in LT in October. That's immediately what we said- chocolate. It's not bad. It is roasted with cacao beans.

I can't speak for anyone else but my taste changes from day to day, and is different in the morning than at night. In the morning I kick some kickass strong coffee with a stronge favour. For my after supper coffee I like a mellow medium strenght and favoured coffee. I do like monte real as well. I bought some coffee from Mexico one time called Autero...something. Absolutely the most divine coffee I've every drank. I spent 8 weeks in Ethiopia in 1986 and drank local coffee and it was very, very good.

The best coffee I ever bought was in Roatan. It came in a paper bag, which made me think it wouldn't be very fresh. But when I opened the bag there were 16 cellophane packets, each with one ounce of coffee. I wish I would have known how good it was going to be. I would have bought more.

Started drinking "Monte Real" after having a FEW cups at an open air bar/cafe in Sosua over 10 years ago.
I drink "Cafe Expesso Santo Domingo as well.
I prefer to buy the roasted "beans", and then grind it myself.
Any coffee you drink in the "Campo", strained through an old "sock" is also very good!
I also like "Starbucks" Capuchino "Batido"!
I agree, "The BEST" is whatever the ambiance makes it "The Best"
"BEST" I ever had in the DR, was visiting a "Girlfriend's" house in Villa Altagracia about 20 years ago.
Her mother used the "Old Sock" method.
I asked where she got the "Cafe"?
She pointed to the open window, and said "There"!
The coffee bush was growing through the window!
Her daughter was pretty "Tasty Too!!!!!
She was "Strong,Sweet,HOT,and Black"!
I will leave off the "Last Line", too close to Jesus' birthday!
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
Oh, I like "Thai" iced coffee the "BEST"!
TOO.

My suegra always made her coffee with the "sock", in fact I have one of her metal stands at our DR house. She made the BEST coffee. I think it's the boiling of the coffee and sugar in the pot first that makes the difference.

I'm thinking it's kind of like the French Press method, maybe I'll give that a try....

I drink a lot of coffee; i consider myself a coffee connoisseur simply because after 4 or 5 cups, i'm able to run great distances, consume vast amounts of buffet food, copulate for hours (caffeine acts as Viagra stimulant for me), and speak at great lengths amount completely meaningless topics and exaggerate greatly. Here is some photos of one my uncles coffee farms in Bonao, up near the first dam as you climb up past Locamao--where the rivers Blanco & Juno meet. He's about 4 miles past the bridge on the left. he's got a few other small coffee farms in the same area.

Frank, that explains a lot. Thank you.

You have been drinking too much coffee lately, found nobody to copulate with, and therefore started hundreds of posts on DR1... lol

ooh! My favorite coffee in DR, is definitely Cafe Santo Domingo. I also loved the way my grandmother used to grind them coffee beens by pounding it on a tall gourd-like object, with a large wooden masher. She also used the "Sock" colador as well and let me tell ya....Both coffee are best without milk. Cafe negro baby!

When I was a dope-smoking, long-haired, patchouli snorting, tie-dyed wearing, Volvo-driving, Zappa-listening hippie freak, ganja did the same thing for me...:smoke:

I always wanted to use the :smoke: smilie...:classic:
