So, Pichardo.......how do those shoppers that "shop with intent" do it without bags.

I visited three malls in Santo Domingo and Santiago just prior to Christmas. While there was decent foot traffic, the thing that I noticed most in all three malls was the lack of shoppers with bags....but every food court was busy.

It's a culture thing, no wonder you can't grasp it!

In the US and most elsewhere, people go to the Malls to browse, lounge and sit around. Hence the mall-rats generations.

A U.S. (UK, CAN or elsewhere, your pick) a person visits the local mall, if intended to buy something as the reason for the visit, they will BUY IT first, bag(s) in hand they then spend the rest of their duration on the said mall visiting other shops and window shopping, but not buying much anything else (other than the usual impulse sale as normal).

The rest of the people would visit to socialize, meet, etc...

In the DR the largest chunk of mall clients went there to BUY something on intent first. Given OUR culture, we laze around and check the nice stores and windows. We then proceed to do everything else, but eat, go and BUY what we went there for. Bag(s) in hand either go to the food court to have some meals/drinks to refresh/fill-up or EXIT the mall to go home/work/etc...

In the DR OUR culture will not BUY first and then hang around a mall full of people, with potential criminals casing for targets to rob.

We BUY and then leave the area without much wasted time or strolling around with them goodies on each hand/arm for all to see.

AS for eating while out shopping, it's also a culture thing for us Dominicans! We MUST eat when we hit the streets and still not matter what, eat again when we get home...

Next you and your buddies here in DR1 will say that McDonalds in the DR are like museums. Where clients go to see the goodies and loiter around and not consume anything...

And many still wonder why so many advanced-cultured expats flunk on biz 101 in the DR...

Based on his response above, you are correct.

I noted my observations in three malls prior to Christmas. Lots of people...few shopping bags.

And his response is, they purchase and then leave.....but leave how? The secret backdoor entrance that only Pichardo and they know about? ....And no one sees them with all these shopping bags lol.

In spite of that, I look at store turnover or churn rate. When I return and find that store after store is out of business, I cannot chock them all up to bad management, undercapitalization, etc. Some of it has to turn on sales volume...or lack thereof.

Wish I knew the secret to conducting that DR biz 101 thing lol.

it is PICHARDO'S secret, which only he alone knows. i do, however, like the concept of 'shopping with intent", as opposed to Americans, who are mall loiterers with intent. only thing is, because of the discrepancy in disposable incomes between Americans and Dominicans, American mall loiterers spend more, per capita, than Dominican shoppers with intent. as to this idea of Dominicans eating out; any half decent Burger King in the USA does more business in a day than most BKs in the DR do in a week.

I gave you the correct and informative response as to why you don't see so many clients walking about with bags (buys) in DR malls as you're used to see elsewhere like in the states, UK, etc... It's clearly understandable that if so few DR people stay around AFTER purchasing their items in the mall, you'll see far less people with bags in the their hands as noted.

If people go to the food court with their bags, they put them down and to the front of their feet, not their sides, so you can't see that many bags around. Once they buy and opt not to eat, they LEAVE as in NOT crowding around like in other countries people do. Hence why you see LESS bags.

They walk out the same way they came in. It's your ignorance and further idiotic stance on the matter which drives to ask the:

"but leave how? The secret backdoor entrance that only Pichardo and they know about? ....And no one sees them with all these shopping bags lol."

It seems you need to get off your clown high horse and get back to mother Earth to have an adult debate on the issue.

so, PICHARDO, what do they do with the bags when they are leaving? why doesn't playacaribe see them? do they paint them with invisible spray? or, maybe playacaribe does not ever see the people who are in the process of leaving, but only those who are yet to shop? and do i take it that when the shoppers put the bags on the ground, as opposed to at their sides, they are no longer visible? help me, PICHARDO. i am bemused.

If people LEAVE as soon as they are done DOING their actual BUYING, with their BAGS on them, the amount of people without bags will outnumber the ones with, since THEY are NOT staying around loitering...

Hope that helps your analytic mind...

It's not like you'll see 300 people leaving at the same time with bags on them...

LOL!!!!

Got to put it in simpler terms maybe?

This is what you see in those foreign malls:

la-plaza-mall-09.jpg

People that already bought their stuff loitering around with their bags on tow...

Not something you'll see much of in DR malls...

Learn! For once learn real stuff about the DR...

They go and visit and loiter around the Mall for hours AFTER they got their goods bagged with them...

Those are the facts you're so lost about the DR about...

Learn to understand that not all cultures share the same practices from where you came from...

This is what people DO in the states and much elsewhere (but Japan from first hand knowledge) after purchasing what they went to get at the malls:
