A blackout affected operations of the south terminal at Las Américas International Airport on Wednesday as of noon. Noticias SIN reported the blackout lasted about 1 hour and 40 minutes.

According to Luis José López, Communications Director for Aerodom (Dominican Airports), the outage was caused by a short circuit. López explained that a sump pump, a device used to collect liquids, overflowed and came into contact with an electrical register, triggering the short circuit. The power outage occurred after 12 noon.

López said the outage did not affect the airport’s regular operations. All flights scheduled for the South Terminal were diverted to the North Terminal during the power outage.

Filing this one a way in my "Only In The DR" folder.
When it comes to international airports in the DR, this is something that seems to happen in one airport. I think earlier this year a Dominican airport suffered a power outage. Take a wild guess which one?

It isn’t that it’s owned by the government, because I don’t remember PP’s airport having one in recent years and that’s government owned too.
