They tend to believe the space(on the street) in front of their house belongs to them. The repair is usually a new fuel pump and filter and a new tank and locking gas cap.

I seen it with my own eyes. You can call the service department of any NEW car dealer and ask them. It comes out as sheets in the bottom of the plastic tank. You tell the owner of a $55,000 Lincoln Navigator that doesnt start(and was towed in) because of an occluded fuel pump what you think the problem is. If you replace those items and the car starts then that must have been the issue.

And by the way, that isnt covered by warranty, that is customer pay. So there is no guessing there. The fuel tank has to come out and the fuel pump has to be removed and the inside of the tank visually inspected. And Being a customer pay, cash job, they have the right to request old parts be returned to them.

Few ounces of gasoline? What car are you talking about man? Modern cars dont have a filter in the tank, there is a sieve at the end of the fuel pump. The sieve is to draw fuel from the furthest part of the tank so the engine doesnt run rough or stall when fuel level is low or when the operator turns the car in a direction the moves the fuel away from the pump's central location. The fuel filter is inline in the send side. The 1st & 2nd generation Navigator doesnt use a fuel return line. It has a remote mounted fuel controller mounted above the left rear wheel on the frame to manage all fuel system operations.

Also, all new cars use sequential fuel injection or gasoline direct injection with very small injector pintles which could be clogged or damaged by any sugar which made it past the inline filter. As a matter of fact, you can destroy an injector by accidentally topping up with diesel, which was quite common when I lived in Florida.
Now if you clog an injector in a GDI system you are screwed.

All this ruckus because of a couple of "almost" crashes? The guy is overtaking cars "in the opposite lane"? - what lane do you people use normally? Take a moto or walk around SD or Santiago - you will near crash 50 times an hour, pretty normal for DR.

Well it may sound ruckus to you but recklessness can kill people! What lane do us people use normally? Lanes what normal people use! Abnormal people do not have brains so they use the opposite lanes and drive heads with the vehicles coming from the opposite direction. I have driven car in Santo Domingo and i know it's worse but if i say that this bugger is way worse cos in Bavaro you hardly have traffic then imagine driving harshly in roads where there is no traffic? pure stupidity and show off.It might be normal in DR but not normal for me!!!

i have to side with ID here. the solution is to wash out the tank with either kerosine or diesel,and change the filters. good as new. sugar cannot dissolve in gasoline.

i had not looked at the advertising angle, but it makes a heck of a lot of sense. the guy now knows of at least one guy who has memorialized his disgust in writing. now the OP better hope nothing untoward happens to the Russian. it could get picturesque.

I am reading this thread with some interest as a couple months ago I had a Dominican friend of mine who works in a casino on the island go off on an extended rant to me of his displeasure about Russian influence on the island. I mentioned where he works because his rant was related to the behavior of Russians in the casino. At the time I took it just as someone had done something to him recently and he was just venting but this thread makes me rethink that thought.

Would those of you in the know here help me understand why this guy driving the car is immune from the Local “Lynch em” mentality that I read about much here on the forum?

I believe in another recent thread their was an expat that just lost his life brutally due what seems like driving recklessly and getting into an accident with the locals. Why is this Russian guy immune from the same treatment?

Doesn't the tilt of justice always go to the Dominican here on the island?

Still learning my way around the local norms...

he is not immune. he is just a case of near misses. when he plows into a crowd and does some damage, the immunity will wear off.

@OP, on the off chance you have been living on the EastCoast and not realized that the Russians have taken control then be warned. This is not a dispute with a neighbour, this is a dispute with someone who could have everyone he wants in his pocket (probably), ears all over the place etc etc etc. Even locals who would bitch about the Yanks and Europeans behind their backs will not say squat about the Russians, to anyone, anywhere, but will spill the beans to them on anyone to score brownie points.

It was mentioned that Karma will eventually catch up with this guy. There are some posters and lurkers that do have some connections with government agencies in the Bavaro area. If a mention of the activities of the Russian reach the correct ears at least he may have one of his days spoiled and interrupted by the by the uniformed authorities. It is doubtful it will happen. Yet, it may.
