I was in SD last renew my residency and I needed to buy some beer, so I went to Bravo which was close by since I heard so much about it here. They don't sell beer!!! They don't sell wine or any liquor at all. I was having flashbacks of being in Philly again. I was shocked. It seems almost un-Dominican. Very nice looking supermarket but it pretty much appeared to have three times as much as the same stuff that I can find in Playero - plus I can buy beer there.

The founders are Christians and the whole business is built on principles from the Bible. That’s why their supermarkets (very successful) are closed on Sunday. If they were open, they would have plenty of clients and the owners know it, but Sunday is the Holy Sabbath day which according to Christians is the day of rest and devote to God.

Not selling wine is news to me. All other alcohol has never been sold there, but wine is (or was) for the sole reason that wine is mentioned in the Bible.

Before anyone goes knocking the whole “building a business with principles from the Bible” as a dumb idea that would lead to failure, they started in the 1980’s and now have over 20 stores nationwide and growing. All based on principles from the Bible.

Those of us from the US and to a lesser extent Canada know the Chick-fil-A restaurants are closed on Sundays for that same reason. There was some legislative efforts in parts of the US a year or so ago to change that in certain locations, but I don't know the results of that.

Yea, that was NY state and I think they dropped it. More stupid ideas from bureaucrats.

They do sell vine and champagne or other vine related products. No other alcoholic beverage. Because vine appeared in the bible. So you need to get wasted with vine, drive home and kill some body on the road the "Cristian Way" . I know i'm the a-hole (again).

Well, at least you recognized it. Now do something about it.

BRAVO definitely sells wine. The wine section in BRAVO San Cristobal is huge.

Other than that, BRAVO is just a very large Colmado.

Not true, my friend. They have a pretty decent selection. Not only that-with them I think they have the 3x2 daily. (3 for the price of two)
It doesn't make sense that they won't sell beer with less than half the alcohol content of wine(?)

True ! Good and cheap for cleaning supply but that's it.
My biggest gripe with BRAVO is they ignore customer suggestions(at least mine)

Here's a great example: They have always had "Nature's Own" bread. They carry 5 different types, but they don't have the Rye bread variety.

I deposit a suggestion sheet for Breakstone cottage cheese and Nature's Own Soft Rye Bread every time I go; roughly every two weeks.

I've been doing that for over 2 years.

I have not received a response from them at all. Not even a "Stop with the suggestions already" email.

I've even mentioned it to the owner who visits monthly twice. Lousy customer service.

Before becoming a huge big box supermarket they were the only ones who didn't sell alcohol at all. The Montesina family (still a family owned company from Spain, very related to the Corripio's) they're christians.

They don't open on Sundays.

And nowdays only sell wines of all over the world (no whisky, no rum, no beer, no hard liquor, no mixers)
