The one we got from PS was electronic, WE WILL NOT BE GETTING anything with electronics. Will do top load with least dials as possible!! As much as I would love to have a fancy washing machine we are lucky enough to not have the DR style one. I will take whatever works best in our area.
I thought top load would be best for our area? We live in LAs Canas, Gaspar Hernandez.

The DR washing machine made me crazy and I never once used it. I don't know how anyone can deal with those! It's way more work and time. Crazy making!!!

We are getting solar power but not for a while....

If I needed a new washing machine I would get quotes from Dominican door to door shippers from the US to the DR and probably end up purchasing one in the US.

Agreed.... scratch/dent specials for me

Next time, I'm bringing in the propane dryer - already have the top load... works like a dream.... after trying it in the DR, I bought one for the Cdn house... perfect.

They are sooooo much better than the older washing machines.... a new world

my recommendation is, as i said: top loader with dials. pair it with gas dryer and you are good to go. the dryer specifically is a marvel during hurricane season, unless you have a large area under the roof where you can put your clothing. even then in a rainy weather it will take long time to dry.
our two machines were bought in the states (used) and then shipped to POP by vinicio's shipping. we used them several times.

I thought DR1 required name, rank and serial number from posters of
negative comments ref local businesses.

Castellamonte is a known entity in Cabrera, and an advertiser on dr1.
Who are you, Mister Two Post, what was your previous name here?
Why are you PO-d?

I bought a whirlpool washer and dryer here 3 years ago and they work just fine. No reason to pay to have one shipped. overall the cost was about the same. The machines were just as good as anything bought in usa. The only product i do not like is Mabe. Too hard to get parts for.

Yup we have hung clothes out to dry and along comes the rain then there are almost dry then....along comes the rain lol. We do have a deck and a thingy to put clothes on to dry though. I want a dryer but the wofe says no and she is the Jefe ;-)

Top load we are gonna get for sure. One more thing i miss about canada are the awesome front load machines....oh well...We can't have that where we live but at least we will have something that washes without 6 hours of work!

i was the same :) why the dryer if the weather is so lovely! nah. reality check came with the first winter :) the clothes would not dry properly and everything had nasty mouldy smell. you arrived to DR in dry season. during the hurricane season and then in the winter we have times with weeks of rain and not a single ray of sunshine.

but, you know, you may have other expenses now. maybe you'll make this decision later on. then remember to get one powered with gas. a real blessing :)

Sales w delivery to the door to door shipper included

If I needed a new washing machine I would get quotes from Dominican door to door shippers from the US to the DR and probably end up purchasing one in the US.

I don't know DR comparable prices, but these seem like great deals.

Sale ends today. I imagine a phone call w cc would get em purchased. Arrange delivery to a door to door. These are Dade County prices....

There is an Admiral brand for only $300, but Whirlpool is a great brand at $382
Whirlpool 3.4 cu. ft. Top Load Washer in White-WTW4800XQ at The Home Depot

(Admiral gas dryer was only $360) Gas dryer Whirlpool $472
Whirlpool 7.0 cu. ft. Gas Dryer in White-WGD4800XQ at The Home Depot

we shopped around and the same GE was a few hundred dollars more expensive in sabeneta and cabarete. We went to Las Sirena and it was way cheaper but they wouldn't deliver to Las Canas, GH so we took a pic of the price and showed it to the big furnature place in Sabaneta and they sold it for the same price, we saved at least $200 and free delivery. I forget the name of this place but it is always over priced. Top load 3 dials nothing special but a regular looking Amercian one.
The dryer i will try and push for next year!

i'm glad you got a good deal. smart move with the photos! great tip for other dr1ers. i think sometimes in DR dominican way is the only way. european style, very electronic washing machine only makes sense in areas with great power and water. so it fills up well with water (including hot water) and the mother board does not fry with power surges.

my SIL is prego for the first time, she was saying her maid will have to work longer hours to boil baby's clothing. i was thinking: f**k this, back home you put the washing machine to 90 degrees celsius cycle and forget about the problem. in DR it's lots of work...

and trust me, by next year the wife will pester you for a dryer, all by herself ;)
