wow...I did not know...I guess that is "normal" then around the world
Normal is a bit of a stretch. It’s a legal measure with roots based on domination and oppression. Used historically to displace people off their lands to further government aims and not always applied equitably. In Canada the government’s rule of thumb for private land acquisition is 95% of fair market value. I don’t know what the DR government paid for the land in Cangrejo but the people in the photo appear to happy with their compensation. Some shrewd people I know have bought cheap land they thought would be acquired by the government at a much higher price.

Chico. The bridge has been gone for over a year. Plenty of time has passed to subcontract the building of the concrete I or T beams in the DR or offshore. If they are already built or near completion, that would accelerate the bridge replacement and make December 2023 almost viable. Are you aware of any DR concrete fabrication companies capable of building the beams?

Since they just awarded the contract last week it seems unlikely the beams would be cast and cured.
The contractor who was awarded the bridge would surely be the one to cast the beams.
I was the RE on an airport cargo terminal in San Francisco. The pile and foundation contract was awarded and completed by one contractor then the building contract awarded to another.
Of course the building contractor made claims the foundation was not correct and they needed large extras to make it work for the building.
But the completed foundation had been surveyed and certified by a licensed survey company and that had accepted by the building company prior to their NTP. (notice to proceed).

But to back his claim the building company hired a survey of the foundation to show errors in the layout.

However after he filed the claim with the airport, I noted he hired the same engineering/survey firm (but a different office) that the foundation contractor employed who certified it was correct.
Of course with egg on their faces the claim was withdrawn and the building erected.

I drove to the bridge site yesterday. No crane, no beams, 1 backhoe on the east side, sitting idle. On the west side, rebar tied together in the round round , at least 8 ready to go. No workers.

What? All of that machinery in the video disappeared?

Just went by Estrella yesterday. They have the contract and the ability. A large company. No idea if they started anything before winning the contract, why would they? Unless of course they knew the contracted was "wired" to them.

Any machines from now on would be provided by Estrella, JD.

Right. I was referring to the machine being transported in post 513. Pretty hard to make something like that disappear.

The transport in the video has not been near the site. I was told that the video was shot near Tenares and is carrying mining equipment. No way to verify.
I thought that video was suspicious. Firstly, the video had the title of "The base of the bridge of Sosua" (not Cangrejos) and, as Habi commented, there were no traffic problems reported.

They could be cast in Santiago, of course, but I believe it would be cheaper to rent some flat ground nearer the bridge and bring the forms and rebar to Montellano to cast.
Hauling concrete beams from Santiago to Cangrejo over bumpy roads is not beneficial to the end product and that kind of transport is costly.
But I stopped by today and they are about Forty 3' diameter rebar cages, column forms and augers for drilling down the columns already tied.
So they are not planning long spans.
It will be a simple and common type bridge - more like an overpass. Like the one shown in the photo below.

Never have to worry about those getting washed away.

You cannot produce pre tensioned beams just by pouring beams at the side of a road; you need a factory setting for that

I don't see a problem with them trucking beams from Santiago to Cangrejos. They can take the circumvention to the Navarette entrance and drive them right up.
I suspect they'll do cofferdams for the pillars (if that's in fact what they're going to do) then lay the beams across them.
Lord knows they have a ton of experience doing that in Santiago and Santo Domingo.
