I'm betting on "double T" beams for the span, as they are used in industrial buildings and the overpasses in the cities.
Could be but this looks to be too long a single span for concrete beams unless a center support is added to provide bearing for beams coming from each side.
Just as a curiosity take a look at the video below to see how much a double T concrete beam can deflect. It is amazing how strong reinforced concrete can be.

Double T beams are real common in parking garages and overpasses with a center support in the median,

This past spring I read this book from one of my favorite authors. This was one of the most fascinating books I have ever read. I know zero about the cangrejo bridge but after reading the book I kind of laugh every time I read the thread.

There are some very long ones here in SD on some of the elevated highways.

Let's see - we will see what they do in 4-5 months but 75' is about the maximum span for these type Double-T beams.
Concrete girders can go up to 200' but they aren't likely going to be able to lift and place those in DR.
Just from looking at the distance between pile caps it's over 150' so I place my bet on a center support structure, which is a little more tricky in the water but nothing engineers don't do frequently.

They could go longer with steel girders but from the photo renderings that doesn't seem to be the plan and maybe they want to get away from steel for corrosion maintenance issues.

Like I said from day one - they could have replaced the existing bridge with a similar steal super structure truss bridge and it would have been finished months ago, even in time for Abinader to take a Christmas bow.

They should build that bridge " A la brigandina" but this American bridges construction company is not longer in business.

Small river … distance isn’t that big ..doesn’t it seem overkill now?

What sense does it make to have a six-lane bridge going into Cangrejo where there are only two lanes and looks impossible to even expand into four?
They'll never have to expand it again. And never say "Impossible."

You think you've seen protests because they're going to bulldoze down a bunch of beach shacks in Sosua? Just wait until the government says they're going to bulldoze down the entire center of town of Cangrejo!!! Once again, I don't think the government has thought this through(?).

Wouldn't it be cool if they revieved the old late 80's plan to build the highway right after Playa Dorada straight through to where the old bridge structures where just past Monetllano and connect it back with the highway. They could.maybe do that multiple lanes and narrow it back down to 2 lanes right after you cross tthe bridge towards the Basé Aérea.

Shorter drive time for the Cruceros to the new and improved Sousa Beach....maybe even to Cab..

Just a thought ......

I've said it before - any kind of advance future planning has never been a strong suit for the DR.

The DR is crisis management at its finest.

Those of you with backgrounds in bridge construction and concrete use have made this thread fun to follow. Two thumbs up. Farmer

Take a look on Google Earth and see just how many houses and businesses on both sides of the street the government would have to buy for over 3/4's of a mile through the center of town.
Tell you what, watch this METRO video on Autopista Duarte and tell me how many houses and businesses are no more to install this METRO extension.

That is a really impressive project. I saw it firsthand when I drove to SD last week. Those tracks only look maybe a little wider than a two-lane highway. If you're going to end up putting in an elevated highway through town, it will have to start way before the bridge, making the bridge pretty much useless(?). A lot of money needlessly spent.

OK, not six, just two really, really wide lanes.

That reminds me of the joke about the pilot flying a plane about to land when he says to the co-pilot "I can't believe how short that runway is" and the co-pilot replies "Yeah, but look how wide it is."

So, you were just joking about it being a six-lane bridge then? I missed the sarcasm.
