I hope that's Cor-Ten steel and not needing sandblasting and painting in place.
Lots of welding to be done.
Won't be open this year that's a given
Even working 24 hrs a day?

Score one for the "They're gonna make it" fans!

As I mentioned before, I think it will be usable but not finished just like they did with the one in La Vega.

what does the magic ball say about crabbing under the bridge ? I could throw a few pots out there
lol! If you’re really serious you should wait a while RDK before crab fishing under the bridge. There’s been a lot of oil and grease deposition into the river from the heavy equipment operating on the river banks. The river sediment collects it, holds it, and releases it slowly. Crabs pick up petroleum contamination quickly.

Regarding the bridge construction, there is a similar bridge being constructed 20 minutes drive from me. slightly larger size because it’s crossing a bigger river that has a flood tide. They started last July and the concrete spans are in place now. Should be ready for traffic in February. I’ve been using it as a comparison to the Cangrejo bridge construction time span.

They may have stripped off some of the forms from the abutments but they still have shoring jacks under the cantilever section where they are landing the beams. So they have not reached a cure time and or strength they feel is adequate for the adjustments to carry load.
If i were the design engineer I would not approve the placing of beams until cast cylinders all came up to design strength and 28 days had passed.
Even with shoring jacks underneath a significant stress could be placed on the curing concrete

Why didn’t they design to rest the beams on the middle of the column? Looks this design puts the midsection load way out of the supported centerline. How about earthquake redundancy? Just wondering

Some beams are up. You can see the welded studs atop the beams meaning they plan on a cast-in-place concrete deck atop the pre-cambered beams. This will take a couple months of formwork plus guard rails, lights and finalizing approaches.
Don't plan on any Christmas roadway miracles - That only happens on 34th street.

So, who thinks that looks like a 4-lane bridge?
I'll settle for 2 lanes without a detour. Heck I would have settled for proper repairs to the old bridge.

On a side note there have been some migratory stop checkpoints (and Haitians arrested) on public transport in and out of Montellano that would not be happening if the detour didn't provide a choke point.
This was particularly true just after the kerfuffle with the border closure over the river diversion in Haiti.

applause to all involved the crab bridge has 832 comments to date ..
We could expand the conversation to include expats and tourists who use the bridge for too long and pay overstay fines. 🤣 Expect a lot more comments and get your crab pots ready. Nothing better than sitting on the beach enjoying a big pot of boiled crabs.
