Can't pay overstay fee in cash now??

I just read this again. Exactly as you say, so if your bank "immediately credited it" but it was not final, they move the status from being settled to being pending. Not sure if you were able to access these funds while they were pending, but I cannot do that with my card. The funds are visible on the card but until the investigation is completed, I cannot access the funds, so the crediting was not final as you say.

How different banks/card issuers show pending/settled charges varies, as far as I have seen. Worst is if the amount is actually included in your balance (debit cards), but you have no access to the funds. Better is (this was the case with my UK based card) that ONLY funds that I have actually access to, are counted towards the balance on the card and are therefore visible. Anything else is marked as pending. If a pending charge is then dropped, the balance would be obviously adjusted again.

This is exactly right. It has nothing to do with where you used the card. The processing centers are where your info is stolen.

This is what someone just wrote on Facebook:

"I called Migracion Puerto Plata Tel: 809-508-2555. It's true. You can only pay via credit card. So for those of you worried about using USD or EU or RD, it's moot. Credit card only"

I wonder if it's the same rule in all Dominican airports now.

It's possible. I remember when the E-ticket first came out a lot of passengers missing their flight because they didn't have it and they didn't give them a paper one to fill out.

I don't have a credit card anymore. I got rid of them as my Visa Debit does what I need. I now need to get a credit card just in case I overstay. Interesting.

My guess is all plastic equals credit card.

Even Amex cards issued in the EU are not credit cards per se, they are differed debit ( ie the whole amount owed is taken out of a bank account at 30 or 60 days. ).

One of my french bank even issues differed debit cards that has the word " credit " written on it for the nitwits that don't understand that predatory interest rates are illegal in my home country.

Not sure about credit/debit card in PUJ as far as the overstay fee but when a family member tried to pay something at the ticket counter in cash, it was not allowed. I do not remember what the fee was for (extra baggage, etc...) but they wanted to pay it in cash. They were told absolutely no cash is accepted. Cards only.

They take both Credit and Debit cards at the ticket counter for sure.............
